if you say motorola the first thing that comes in mind is 2way radio, not cell phones.
In europe motorola has lost most of its poplairty, the V3 series is to old, their new phones aren't special appart from those expencive UIQ phones, and the F3 made many people angry.
I think motorola might quite providing phones to some parts of the world.
If they would stop it completly, it would open up the eyes of many americans, and many company's would battle to win the lost motorola fans/users.

Americans should start embracing handsets if Motorola will really QUIT the mobile-phone-market . . .

After those disappointing 2007 results im not realy suprised, although it would be sad to see them go. Moto seem to be one of the only manufacturers implementing the LINUX OS in to their phones, would have been interesting to see how the new Linux OS in Z6 would have done in newer Motos etc. . .

Moto realy have slowed down though, after the E398,V360 and V3 RAZR there was nothing amazing from them, they have only NOW put in a 3mp camera, and most if not all their phones don't have WiFi.

I guess that depends on which part of the world you are as well. Ask anyone here what a two way radio is and you'll get lots of blank faces. In the US for sure - its the two way radio.

being profitable and marketshare don't always go hand in hand...

Yeah, but it's fairly proportional...

if you are maintaining marketshare probably.. but when you are losing marketshare it means you are not selling any new porducts...your marketshare is based on old legacy products that don't bring in any income...

Motorola would leave the non-smartphone market and focus where their business is good?
Motorola and Samsung steal Smartphone market from HTC?

Its that damn UI they stuck with all these years.A different UI in some of those models could have been another prospect altogether.
