Purchase the firmware from Davinci services. They apparently can unbrand, unsecure and unlock your P1i.

my question was generally ment, cos i was wondering, that se didnt made any steps in this direction... ( yet )

possibly because it would be useful to only 0.1% of SE owners?

I do agree that it offers more protection because, if you have sim lock turned on you must enter the sim code before you can access even the flight mode

I guess if this was implemented on phone people wanting pin code protection would have to set phone lock to always ask as well as the sim lock code.

@masseur maybe its just me, cos i got used to it at nokias and cos se users never had this feature, they dont miss it...

u have tytn II afaik. guess u like to use it in offline mode too, if it is, when your sim is in another, cos the kaiser still might offer u more possibilities, like a simple java fone. so when wm mobile, nokia etc are offering it at the start already, was wondering, why se never made thought of it. u are right, maybe 0.1 % of se uers miss it, but note, u cant miss sg, what u never had...

I have a Nokia 6260 and it will not work unless there is a SIM card in it.
Perhaps the walkman symbian phones could have this function but "business" phones like the P990 (and P1) should definitely not work without a SIM card. It's part of the security. I'm not talking about cost of calls but the integrity of personal and sensitive data in the phone.

"integrity of personal and sensitive data in the phone."

how u mean this? normally i am the only one, who use my fone. if it gets lost, it takes now a days 10 mins to get a fone unlocked or get all datas out of it. and one more thing: really important and personal things i would never store i a mobile fone... so its the the mistake of the one, who stores naked pix of the gfriend or confidental infos in a fone...

How do you get data out of it? The only way would be to reflash the phone which erases all personal data.
This reflects the "business" usage vs. "recreational" usage pattern. So the "W" series could have this option but not the "P" series. I've never had a need for this feature and I'm pretty sure neither had 99.9% of other smartphone users.

Boba i have an N70 and K850i and i agree with you. When i got the SE i was able to transfer all my items across from the N70 as it didn't need a sim-card. The cybershot and walkmans should be able to as they both have useful add ons.

you wouldn't, but business users would because the name of the game is efficiency. A simple security measure like sim only access is a very good idea.
