turn on transitions then move around the main menu using the jog dial. you will see that the movement of the cursor is animated rather than it being instantaneous. This is why the phone seems slower as the animation has to finish before the option is opened. Say if you highlight "entertainment" on the main menu then tap "office" with your finger - you have to wait (a few milliseconds) for the cursor to move all the way across.

After the last firmware upgrade, it is kinda smooth, specially when opening the "more" button, but the more options you have in the "more" button, the slower you will feel it is, but I like how it maximizes and minimizes the menu options, I had it on since the day I had my p1i, now when I turn them off, the phone feels so dull! I hope they just smothen it more in the next firmware... cheers
