you could also try contacting another network provider asking if they can see if the IMEI is blocked. Maybe they can't give you much details about it, but they should be able to see if it's blocked or not.

take it into a vodafone store they can check on their intranet for u free of charge....

if a phone is blocked it take a few days for other operators to block the phone use as they share the lists of barred imeis but i dont think it is updated in realtime, after a few days.
