There's one reason, and one reason only for Sony Ericsson's slow releases. If they wait any more, the products are going to be leaked and all specs will be out months before it's announced, due to firmware and beta testing

They do testing anyway, but is it really necessary to show it 6 months before? I agree with most here, it is not so clever. And fans get quite annoyed with it. Promising and waiting for something that isn't yet there and watching other brands passing by with the new models... Nokia releases something and everybody who wants to buy it will buy it in a month or so. With

you forget what you wanted to buy...

@Mizzle
Why are SE unique in this situation how can it apply to them differently then to any other manufacturer? sorry but that just makes no sense at all. As for for Beta testing are you sure i thought that was what us the paying users did for them.
@all
The other problems is with such long lead times what looks like top spec when announced is alreday dated by release even 6 months is a very long time in Mobiles any longer than that is just ridiculous IMO why bother announcing it so far ahead we get excited and then bored before it's eventual release.

Exactly what I wanted to say. Their current way of doing things is pathetic! I wonder how long it would take for the "P5" to be released after announcement.

I think most of the A200 phones will be out in 3 months time which is quite normal. But Uiq may be 4 and i wish they announced X1 in may then we would all not be complaining so much i am interested in the C702 or C902 so i guess i am not waiting for long lol i think

is looking at this trade

One would think that with such a long waiting period SE could at least do some beta testing before releasing products, which was clearly not the case with P990. Whatever changes took place at SE, after the P900 they were not able to release a well designed competitive product.
If I were the SE CEO, I'd start with the P990/P1 project manager and replace everyone down to the last tech guy, including any PR guys assuming there are any.
Less than 2 years after launch and SE officially no longer supports P990, in contrast, Nokia still works and releases fw upgrades for their N95 to improve performance and functionality. SE is just not doing anything to gain my confidence, for that reason alone for my next smart phone I will not start by looking at SE first. If SE has any analysts, they should analyze this as I have been an SE user with P800 then P900 for about 4-5 years now, more than 15 years including Ericsson, but no more.

if nokia shows a fone, its out within weeks, when se does the same, its out in monthes... imo it has nothing to do with strategy, more with competence and technical knowledge. next to it, besides the new design of xperia and g series, se didnt show anything really new, all the features, wm, cam etc are already given, so why and for to wait?
