Why was the original thread locked? (It was going fine the last time I looked)

Why should this thread be locked?
-Surely the issues that it raises go right to the heart of Esato's reason for being.

-My take on the official SE response:
Yes, dissapointing.
...But surely you wouldn't expect the new CEO to respond in anything other than a positive and corporate manner.
If you want real answers, you need to speak to off the record and probably to the Head of Develepoment...not the CEO.

I need to clarify a few things:
I'm not expecting the P990 to perform miracles and that is not why I'm angry with SE.
I wasn't able to use my P990 for almost 6-7 months due to constant restarts - including restarts while answering calls. It became a laughing stock among my friends as the ultimate smartphone that "could not receive calls".
Last summer I calculated that my P990 had been unavailable for roughly 10% of the time, either due to flashing new fw or being at the service center (replaced 3 times under warranty). The SE service centers are just not competent, most of the time they are not even capable of understanding the problem. The quality of SE's PCSuite software is on par with their P990 fw, with plenty of bugs in what little functionality it offers.
The P990 was about the same price as the Nokia N95 when I bought it. Nowadays a new P990 is at 35% value whereas the N95 is still at around 80% value.
N95 also suffered from the insufficient RAM problem but Nokia worked on the problem and gave all N95s "demand paging" to try to ease the problem. SE on the other hand did nothing and had the nerve to suggest that we buy the P1 to fix the problem! They even went so far as to try to remove all references to P990 on their web site. Nowadays RDS is not listed as a feature of the P990 - well, it was when I bought it, but then it was easier to delete that feature than to fix it. Does that tell you something?
This kind of arrogance and disrespect is what ticks me off.

Yes, I think it is a very big deal... Would you like to eat at a restaurant where the waitress throws food at your table or somewhere with good service?

I bought my P990 when it was launched here(within a week of launch) in September 2006 for Rs34,000.That money came from my 1 year rotatory internship needed to complete me Graduation in Medicine during which i was paid Rs3000 per month(around 66$/month at that time...yeah doctors in India are underpaid )
This phone was my first major purchase with my own hard earned money(almost 12 months of hospital work).
After purchasing it in September,it was almost useless(looking forward for the next update was my only hope...and i trusted SE in fixing it)till around January(2nd last firmware)..and after that they announced that P990 was perfect now but if you still find problems with it,spend another Rs25,000 to buy a P1i.

Now some of the basic problems...
...the pictures taken with it comes blurry(it still does...though less..i need to take 4-5 shots to get atleast 1 rightly focused)

...web browser used to cause reboots(opening 2-3 tabs now makes the application close on its own)..i have been using opera mini ONLY for more than a year.

...sound is not loud enough from the headphones(lousy headphones were replaced with a W branded, worth Rs1000...but still not loud enough)

...multi tasking(even 2app at a time..like quadrapop and music or net and music/radio or Sms and music etc) causes reboots...now after the last firmware update,1 of the application shuts down...i cant surf and listen to music/radio at the same time!!!...something i loved to do in my K700i!!!

...external sound is not audible enough....i have missed many calls due to the restarts in 2006...but i missed most calls due to low ring sound...i have kept the SE official ring tone at highest volume but still cant hear the ringing bell even if i am in the next room...i have demonstrated this to my friends who now understand why i don't answer the phone sometimes....the worst is when listening to music, when a call comes,it just gives inaudible beeps in the earphone...my K700 was far better 'phone'..and it did many things i dare not try in my P990.

...OH how can i forget the faulty alarm...it gave me countless sleepless nights.

P990 FAILS MISERABLY AT BEING A PHONE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

My friends often ask me,why don't u sell this crap...my answer is its my first thing i bought with my money...this thing taught me not to blindly trust any company...and use my brain instead of heart when buying things like this.

@mizzle,you don't know what it has been like using it everyday for us...
From your comments,it seems you own stocks to sony/ericsson or SE??Do u work for SE??or do u own a SE shop/repair center??Moreover, you asked us for questions...so its your responsibility to get the answers we asked back to us(if they EVER answer). You are just a mediator...you have got no right to deny information.
Grow Up!!

Nobody can ever say that to anyone regarding saying YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOWN WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU BOUGHT THE P990i. Sorry but if a company like SE or anyone is not supplying a product to the market knowingly that its not going to work properly and not helping the customers then thats wrong and very bad. SE cant keep throwing products onto the market that dont work and not expect people to become p**sed off. You would not go out and buy a car and the breaks keep going on it and the company expects you to just except it and not be given some sort of alternative. Disgusting.

I just sold my P990i because it was too big for me n seeing the new slim phones out i am thinking of getting one of those. Ok about the P990i it did lack memory, but worked flawlessly and did not give me any problems it was i repeat unbranded and unlocked and i got it with the R5 realise on it but still it worked fine after i updated to R6 there was no problems so i don't know why u had a bad phone and why u need to complain like its the end of the world sorry to say don't buy

@korbindallis
Truthfuly, I never had that much a problem with my P990 after R5 as well, but the main point is it never did perform as advertised and SE just brushed it under the carpet when we demanded some sort of response. No multitasking, no RDS auto frequency as advertised, the memory leak is simply horrendous which just worsens the low memory problem and a host of other problems caused by half-assed development from SE. Like Makbil mentioned, Nokia deviced an elegant solution to N95's multitasking problem by making demand paging available. That's how you value your customers, not claim "we do not find any memory leak problem in our device with the final firmware" crap which is such a blatant and obvious lie and came even before the device's 1st birthday. How on earth can you defend SE in this matter? If you can still do that then it is totally beyond me
