Mine got the following symptoms too:
1) poor batt life 2) heat felt on the batt cover

Yeah it could be the wifi scanning cuz last time I remember starting the scan but had to leave the place while its still scanning. When I got home I realized the batt was dead. I tried everything I know - recharging, restarting the phone, uninstall some of my apps, turn off wifi, etc. but still no hope.

So I sent my P1 to SonyEricsson Service Center. After 3 times still they couldn't fix it! All they did were change batt and upgrade the firmware - 1st time chg batt, 2nd time upgrade, 3rd time they did both. So this time I'm gonna go back there and demand they do something else to fix it or give me a new set!!! See how it goes.

I have experienced the battery drain a few times on my P1i.
I tried to access the Internet using a free wifi spot, did not succeed in this, however the battery was from 90% to 18% in the 45 mins that i took to reach home frm the wifi spot.
I also installed fring yesterday. tried using it (not done with the exploring completely yet). i think that also caused the battery drain.

any one facing this problem with fring?

fring is a little battery eater.. but it's not a pain in the ass.. I will do some tests with it although. I'm also curious of how much battery it does drain. I recomend fring for VoIP, but just for instant messaging I think you should go for Slick (www.lonelycatgames.com). It's way better for IM

thanks i will check out Slick. and also play a bit more with fring.

i am thinking of going for a dedicated monthly data plan with the service provider. I am on Idea in India and currently have a pay as you use plan rather than a fixed monthly cost plan

what say you abt this?

I sugest you do that depending on your needs. I have a contract with Vodafone for 6years now and it suits me very well with both data and voice!

It is just a battery celibracy problem. Top solve this simply use your p1i till it shuts off by itself without any battery power left. Then recharge fully. The battery level will be accurate. It is not a faulty battery.
