There is an application only for cutting parts of a mp3 files... But not for converting them or changing the bitrate... Anyway you can use MediaCoder (for e.g.) on the PC to change the bitrate of the songs... And I don't think that a java mobile phone has the processor power to change bitrate on a mp3 file .

I always use fairstar audio converter for the pc and set my songs to a bitrate or 112 (or something like that) and i think the quality is almost the same with songs with higher bitrate.

actually, in my experience, a 256Kbps sounds much much better than 112Kbps even on a phone.

256 is very good choice for ripping audio cd or converting from wav files. Great sound, deep bass and soft treble. Size is big though but the quality is BIG too
