As we can see every cat has a different personality. A cat can be content in an indoor environment and some never venture outside. Unless the cat shows signs of behaviour that indicates it is not happy with its environment I would not be worried.

Yeah, I agree with Evil. It more or less depends on a cat's personality, whether they prefer to sleep all day anyway or they are very active and enjoy exploring/playing etc. But despite that I do believe that it is cruel to not allow your cat the opportunity to go outside if they wanted to, whether they usually want to go outside or not. Just within a kitchen though is pretty bad, at least give them the hall or so if you're worried they might eat or break things and so on - or of course put them outside, though obviously depending on the area you live.

sometimes feel a bit that way about my neighbour's cat which constantly brings me not-quite-dead critters... what's it trying to tell me?

It likes you

Half dead critters are the cat saying "look I left it alive for you to play with" You should feel honoured
btw it's not cruel to leave the cat inside if as others have said, it is not ignored when people are home, it has food and water and somewhere to go to the toilet, and it's not exhibiting bad behaviour.
Personally I let my cat roam, she would be stressed if locked up all day everyday, but mostly because I've always let her roam and that's what she is used to. I always leave a place where she can get in or out of the house (we have bars on the windw - she can get through but a person can't)

hope u don't mind me asking in this thread, but seeing as there are ppl here who know about cats...
the neighbour's cat (v sweet and friendly btw) which brings me mice and birds – well it never goes home! we don't feed it, but it sneaks in as soon as i leave a door open for more than 15 secs, nips upstairs and finds a cosy place for the day. once it gave me a real fright when i chucked a load of clean washing onto the bed and the washing suddenly leapt up into the air... cat was underneath! the neighbour is v fond of her cat, but never sees it, unless she pops in to see me

... she says it doesn't even go home for food! recently the cat had been in a fight and had a bad cut on its head. i thought that she ought to see a vet so had to call my neighbour to retrieve her cat – felt somewhat guilty!?! how can we get the cat to live in the right home?

Sorry Lesleyann, but you dont own a cat, it owns you! Cats stay where they want to.
We once had a cat years ago, it was very happy with us but we went on holiday for 2 weeks and left it with my auntie, 5 mins down the road. When we got back, no matter what we did it went straight back to my aunties first chance it got!
It stayed there till the day it died.

Get the owner to lavish it with attention

That's about the only way I know of to get cat's to stick around. Cat's are basically little tarts.

Ok on another note the Pussycat has had a cold for a month or so yet the woman hasn't done nothing to get it sorted lol!
the cats a lovely animal but locking it up at night in the kitchen in the cold without a cat bed is disgusting, no wonder it has a cod the poor thing!
if anyone by there right mind loved there animal as much as they did another person then they would get it treated!
I feel sorry for it!
Im not a cat person btw I prefer the flying winged sort myself
