check out. after setting up your laptop for an ad-hoc network, scan wireless networks on your p1i, then connect normally. the part after the "How to set up additional computers" title is for connect the other computers to your pc. you dont need this. if you still cant do this, I'LL KILL MYSELF >.
this is the most basic way to connect your pda to computer for internet connection. Bluetooth network was the old way to use internet with NON WI-FI phones.

i hope you know english well,
good luck.

if you maked the wifi connection between laptop and p1i, it's very good for you. i'm using turkish windows xp, so the texts i translated may not be correct 1 by 1.
open "network connections" from "control panel". then select your primary lan connection(the internet youre using from the laptop should connected here). this may be another modem connection or etc. if youre connecting to internet from laptop's ethernet, that should be "local area connection [x]".
right click it then select properties. click the "advanced" tab above. in "internet connection sharing" part, you should see an option that saying "let other network users connect by this computers internet connection.". if you cant see this, look for something means the same. tick it then click ok below. you should see a "shared" title on your internet connections icon. done.

now try to connect to interet by your p1i's wifi.

thanks.
