DO NOT LIE!! You might or will get found out. If you get to interview, you can bring this out and make a positive statement about your intentions.
Google covering letter on the net and see what it comes up with. An example:-
From jobseekers webpage:-
Applying for advertised jobs
When applying for advertised jobs, your covering letters should, again, state why you are the best person for the job, relating the information in the job description to your experience and skills.
You should make special note of what the requirements are in the job specification and reflect this in your CV.
Your covering letter, however, should be brief, professional and be directed to person stated on the job advert. At the end of the day, the employer is only going to look at CV’s in this case.

Yer thought I better not lie, I won't.
Changed my CV a bit, and edited the letter too, will send it off after taking comments in to consideration.
Like all other applications I've made I don't even expect a reply any more, hey ho.
Thanks for advice all, will post back if I hear anything.
Btw a quick question, should I send it as high priority or normal, and should I request a read receipt?
thanks

Sorry, is this an email application they are asking for? Send it as normal as it will get there and I would ask for a receipt or even ring up and ask if the email arrived. If it doesn't, you would never know!!

Yes, email application.
I'd hate wondering if they got it or not, I paid for recorded del for an application 2 weeks back, they signed for it......then never even contacted me back the miserable rude gits.
If you feel that you have the potential to meet these challenges, please send your CV and covering letter to
cheryll.steed@clays.co.uk by Friday 1st August.

Not received the confirmation email yet, I'm wondering if they click the don't send receipt button.
Spent this morning down town talking to my advisor in the job centre, saw 2 jobs that look ok, nothing special, so just tried to contact them and both places the people are in meetings.
So thought I'd phone the college up about re-doing maths because I can't afford the £300 fee and wanted to know if I can pay it off monthly, but they weren't available either.
Looks like everyone is busy but me lol.

Well they phoned me up this morning and asked if I could come in for an interview, which is great seeing as I ordered new suit trousers last night lol.
Thing is, she said can I come in on Tuesday the 6th at 11AM.....but I just looked and the Tuesday is the 5th. So I'm now thinking I may of heard her wrong (hey she called at 9am and I was sleeping lol).
She said she'd send a letter out today with all the details on, should I just wait for that letter to arrive, or, Sunday/Monday should I send an email just saying;
"Hi , robin here, blah blah, could you please confirm that the interview will take place on tuesday at 11am."
Which one should I do?
Also the job centre are being a right effing pain, I just phoned up, 4 days before hand to say I have an interview and will have to miss my appointment at 1pm because I have to travel to Bungay (complete opposite direction) at 11am, say the interview process takes around 90mins, then 20mins to travel back. That's 1PM, so the guy at the job centre goes, "Ok, you can see us at 2pm then".
I said, well ok but bare in mind that's all a rough guide, my last interview was 9am till 3pm so this might be the same you never know, also I have to walk to town which takes 40mins, so by the time I've done everything exactly to that estimate it will be 1.40pm.
He said no problem, see you tues.
So that's made the stress on that day a bit easier eh!

Hoping the letter will come through tomorrow, because I know I have an interview, but I don't know where it is or on what day.
I do know it's at 11am though lol, and that it's either tues or wed.
I'm hoping it's Wed because my suit won't come till, at earliest, Tuesday....They have taken payment for it, but it's showing out of stock on their site now, so I phoned and said that I bought it when it was in stock, and you've taken payment, does that mean that one has deffinatly been allocated to me, and he said one *should* be, but high demand means they can't be sure, and I'll receive an email once it's been dispatched, but that's no good because it could mean that the email doesn't come for 2 weeks.
Could I get away with this,
I have a black jumper, and it has a collar that looks like I'm wearing a black shirt under it.
I think it looks smart, I may have to wear that and just apologise and say the dog knocked a drink over it so I had to change last minute.
I'll have to bite my fist and go out and buy a 2nd pair of trousers because the ones I ordered may be delayed by other items I ordered at the same time which is a pain in the arse.
Man been waiting for an interview for ages, one comes and:
My suit is too big
My new one has been delayed
I'm not sure of the location
Not sure of the day
Not sure how I'm getting there
Fun fun fun

Why my interview was put off:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/suffolk/7544544.stm
"The power cut was caused by a fire at a sub-station in Bungay on Friday. "
Edit:
Hey, they even mention Cleys (which is actually Clays) the company I have an interview with, I didn't know they printed Harry Pooper
