Would your mini USB connector allow you to both charge and have a headset connected at the same time? SE's connector allows that.

to be honest, I have never used a headset while charging, but if I did want to do that I'd buy a splitter such as
this for £2.99 + delivery and then I can use my own headset too.
as I don't do that I just have a mini usb to 3.5mm adaptor in the same way I have a fastport to 3.5mm adaptor for using my own headset
