I never quite liked Sonicstage myself, but ATRAC is a very good audio format though.

Yes, Sonicstage is a PITA...and yes(esp. at 192kb), ATTRAC does have impressive quality, to this day......

NW-A810/818 are supposed to be quite legendary, not had one to test to this day though!

ATRAC has exellent audio quality at really low bitrates, but not so advantageous at higher bitrates. If I had to have reasonable quality at 48-96Kbps range, I'd use ATRAC happily, but at midrange bitrates AAC is the best. If storage isn't an issue I use 256-320Kbps encoding and I prefer MP3 for that.

I have an MZ NH600 minidisc recorder that I use for converting analog sources to digital format. The unit is one of the "drag and drop" minidisc players. It records in ATRAC at high and low bitrates, and the recorded tracks are not omg encrypted like in previous minidisc players so you get raw access to the digital data. Recordings be copied to the computer and easily converted into MP3.

It can also play MP3's so makes a very good quality mp3 player, much better than any of the phones people are arguing about lately but disadvantages are 1. large size of the player compared to solid state memory based mp3 players, and 2. disc capacity is only about 280MB or 1GB if you can find himd discs, unless you don't mind carrying extra discs.

It would be odd if it didn't. I wouldn't then know how to explain the many hours of recording I've gotten with the unit.

it has a line in but you need a powered mike to make voice recordings. But analog sources such as record players work fine. I use it to record old lp's and tapes when I can't find professionally digitised versions.
