Hey... Thanks! So... After a week, here's what I have to report...

@lukechris : Well, I did format the M2 card earlier.. Now, I downloaded SEUS (instructions are pathetic..!) and update the phone software... I did it right (Phew! Those can kill the phone if something goes wrong, I know!)..

Ok, as of now, there is no data corruption. Will try this for just a few more days of connecting, disconnecting and data transfer with the PC..

Is transferring data with SE PC suite more 'formatty (I put that in deliberately)' or 'right' in any way compared to just transferring the files??

Could be a fake M2.. That is what I thought and still think to an extent.. Anway, I'm posting pics of my M2 card.. Any expert opinions ??

I will test it out for a few more days..

There's nothing wrong spending a little more to get a 'good' and reliable one Mate.

@groovepeppy. Totally! I'm a firm believer in that... Er.. I've become one after a lot of mishaps!! Ok.. I didn't see this one coming though..! I think I made myself believe that M2 cards are sold that way.. I realised I was wrong. Well, its ok. I've never purchased memory cards in my life.. This was the first one.. So I guess I learnt the hard way

Ok.. I did and am still speculating that this might be a fake, but it fits perfectly, doesn't get physically stuck, works correctly with the spring mechanism, looks (make that 'looked' for now) original.

The phone is much faster now (or atleast that is what I think?) after the software update.. Is that really happening...?

Just a off topic. How much did it cost to you. I also hav purchased it without bill in approx 11$. Could not find any problem yet.

@ajeetpv: It costed me INR 1000 (~ US$21)...

does it happen when you save in the phone's memory?

No. That doesn't happen.

@groovepeppy:
I will speak to the dealer about a possible exchange or trade for the one I have in case I'm not satisfied. Though he didn't give me an official sales bill, he did give me a smaller one just mentioning the stuff sold, the date and the price.

Ok... The DCU-60 cable too is a generic one, not genuine Sony, that I knew earlier... Recommend a real one here too? What damage can a generic cable cause?... I would like to know.

Is it ok to move the phone around when the cable is still attached.. I guess you can.. right? Because it has to be used in case I get a call or a message.

Ok.. Will test this out further.

Update: I just checked out the local Sony website.. The ones that I bought weren't really that cheaper than the MRP.. The genuine DCU-60 costs 3 times the generic one, the genuine M2 costs just 1/3rd more than what I bought...

Now..! I am worrying !!

it's safe to use non generic dcu if you only use it for data transfer between phone to pc but it was kinda risky if you use it for modding your phone, eg. connecting your phone to XS++ or SETool2lt and even for doing Software Update using SEUS...
whenever you mod your phone even if you use the original dcu then you better keep your phone untouched while the process is on the run or else......
too scary to mention hi hi . . .

@satanic_dude, your card looks a bit suss to me. The label is not a usual Sony thing, I've never had a M2 card with a reflective label like that on it. Also the molding looks a bit less precise than the other pics.

Just had an interesting (!!) conversation with the dealer...

He agreed to replace the card with an original Sony M2 card (which comes along with the packing, USB adaptor, 5 year warranty, etc..) for the small difference amount I will have to pay (bringing the total to the original MRP). I will have a look at it this time before accepting it, will check if the packing has been tampered with, etc.. But if he tries to con me, things will turn ugly.

I am planning to even return the generic DCU-60 during the exchange.

At this moment, I am not in the best of moods.

Has this 'fake'(still don't know) M2 card in any way damaged or altered the slot on the phone? I hope not 'cause its working fine now. Is the fake card different in dimensions compared to the original? Damn, now this is eating me up!

Do I still stand a chance of using my phone perfectly as it was "'supposed to be used originally if I had used all original stuff since the beginning"' ?? Sorry! I know it all sounds too deep and complicated! But I would still like to know from you experts

Nope, unless it makes you to use a little force to put it in

Yes you will, don't worry, it's just a little "mechanical problem" you've just confronted

btw my friend has a 16gb ms pro duo with a sticker. (he gets some of the rejects from the sony factory in korea cause his uncle works there, eg his psp has a gash down the umd drive door, but it doesn't affect playing.)

Thanks.. That was reassuring. I couldn't go as the concerned people weren't working at that mobile shop today.. I will let you know how it goes when I meet them.

Ok.. He managed to upset me. That means trouble.

Now, he says I'll have to buy something in exchange for the goods I am returning, for the same value.

This is what I'm gonna do. He either has to agree to exchange the M2 card (the fake bugger) and USB cable (which I guess has become loose, bloody thing) for a SE J110i (I'll tell you what I'm gonna do with it, if I do get hold of it) which costs the same ~INR 1200 (~US$25), or prepare to meet me in court (I am not joking, there is a consumer court here .. which I am talking about).

I am anyways planning to go ahead and buy myself a genuine M2 card and a DCU-60 from a Sony Center. This will cost me INR 2000 (~US$42). I do not want to risk losing data in the future.

Will keep you posted!
