Ahem - perhaps not love or taste, but most definitely opinion. Whatever you've based that statement on, others will have different ideas on what "overall most advanced" really means. UIQ was certainly advanced in some areas, but it was also quite flawed in others.

ahem...he certainly has more conditions than you or me to judge it, because he is a mobile aplication DEVELOPER, in case you did not notice it...

And I'm a smartphone platform USER, what's your point? In all seriousness, the sole purpose of any computing platform is to serve its users, not the developers. The "most advanced" smartphone platform is that which offers its users the best overall experience, surely?
A developer may well judge a platform from a completely different standpoint - which is easiest to program for, most likely - but that is no measure of the platform's effectiveness in use, power efficiency, speed, reliability, usability, etc. The "most advanced" platform for a developer could still be an absolute pig for the end customer to use.

I pretty much agree with Boinng. Programs are for users, not developers. Therefore, I'm judging UIQ from the user's point of view, more concretely a techie user who would like to have a small omnipotent computer with phone abilities. There is no love here, just requirements. All smartphones more or less offer the features I look for, but UIQ stands out by computer-like appearance and behavior, plus versatility and convenience of use. I can't help calling that advanced.
Surely the more phone-like approaches (S60) have always been more popular, and I have no any problem with that - just would not call it advanced. It resembles the common ancestor (the phone) more
By the way, the C++ variant used in UIQ (and Symbian in general) is one of the hardest programming environments I ever met - it's definitely not one of those optimized for beginner programmers!

Zed, you are BOTH user and developer. I value your opinion more than Boinng or any other common user here at esato. To fully understand if on OS is more powerfull or not than other, it requires more knowledge than the common user has.
When a developer says something like you did, one take notice, and its something we can refer to for argumentation sake. If its just me, or Boinng...not so much.
I give another example:
http://smartdreaming.blogspot.com/
this is the blog from Malcom of Dreamspring, the guys behind what is probaly the best PIM app for Symbian, first UIQ, and that now will be ported to s60 v5. Read what he writes about UIQ, and you will see almost the same that Zed said...
Again...this is something of notice. Again, Malcolm is both USER and DEVELOPER. He certainly knows more than me, despite i consider myself a power user.

I would say the opinions of all of us are just equally important and valuable, as long as there are serious arguments behind, and the resulting conclusions can be different for sure. Some people might know more details, while other people might see clearer. Discussion is what we need and I think grounds are proper for that.

UIQ is dead because the user end of it was non existent, not the developer. SO i think what the user thinks is more important. I used UIQ for 2 months and IMO coming from 2 years of S60 i think UIQ was garbage.

You can roll your eyes all you want but i know what i'm talking about. I've already given a long list of serious problems with uiq which hampers its usage in another thread some time ago. No one had an answer to it

In terms of opinion value, iīd put out yours in the opposite side of Zedīs and Malcolmsīs, i.e., close to 0
You did not do anything beside asking dumb questions, ranting over UIQ, and being just plain annoying since you bought the w950. You donīt like it, donīt use it!
I could say i used s60 for even less time than you (go figure), and i also may call it "trash" because i find it inferior, but hey, i donīt go out to s60 forums and annoy people all the time, do i??? And
but i know what i'm talking about
joke of YEAR ftw! Do we have another "technical expert" in making???
