Samsung OS sucks so I'll never understand why people buy them. Unless like recent phones they use someone elses OS.

Well their smartphone uses the same OS as Nokia and other WM devices, with some eye candy from samsung.
Their non-OS phones have come a very long way. From the incredibly terrible OS from the D900 days, their new U900 uses a much much better and very sleek UI. From offering no themes, they now offer you to make your very own using just your phone!

Samsung have lately become very innovative in their approach to UI's.

Eventheir WM and s60 offerings have many improvements over the vanilla OS underneath.

I was very impressed with the Samsung flavour of WM on the i780 I bought a little while ago. Alsao they are trying hard in the area of ergonomics, for example one of the first devices to use an optical joystick.

Also for the price their devices are very good quality.

In terms of durability, user friendly and reliablity nokia products have been on the top. Now SAMSUNG has improved its qualities and technology as well.

Most of the average people, particularly girls love the Samsung phone designs. I have only ever liked designs myself, I have had a few Nokias and a Samsung C100, which was a sweet candy bar phone, but overall for me have the most attractive phones based on looks, right now T700 is my favorite candybar, G705 is my favorite slide, and Z770 is my favorite flip phone, but I always prefer candybars which excel in.

Samsungs handsets appeal more to the younger generation cos of the designs, Nokia don't do anything colourful, Slim that flips..

kids wants cute phones not excutive ones

saying that ive seen alot of kids with my phone,
never see any with a iPhone though

Ps, by kids im talking about 16 to 17 year old students

really never saw what was wrong with their GUI, I found it efficient and easy to use, but I've never had an issue with gui's other than moto. Maybe the only thing that bugged me on samsung was no calling profiles, but that was long ago

Its been obvious to onlookers for months now that Samsung is on the heels of Nokia. Toppling Nokia (globally) still looks like a dream, but I very well expect them to take a significant bite out of Nokia's share.

Like I said on another thread not too long ago, Samsung is playing Nokia at their game - releasing lots of phones, especially in the budget segment (where the market really is). The UI is better than ever too, and the features are good.

While we may compare the 5800 and the Omnia, these belong in another segment; not the critical budget segment. Unfortunately, us geeks don't often pay enough attention to budget phones but that's where the real battle of numbers is fought and won (or lost).

SE played that game too but it didn't work because they left a vacuum in their high-end segment. The high-end segment is needed as a branding anchor and Samsung has drawn out their biggest guns on this segment. Kudos to them, they've always been a second choice of mine (not in a demeaning way, I'm just a fool hooked on SE)

True, and well said.
