my brother tried to get a contract from o2 via the website and got refused, so he went into the o2 shop and they gave him one no problem

Regarding refusal of upgrades. I was due my upgrade last June and wanted the C902. Decided to do the upgrade through Carphone Warehouse as i wanted an unbranded model. Sales bloke did 4 credit checks and I got refused my upgrade. Promptly phoned O2 and got it from them no problem. O2 even said CPW had no reason to refuse me.
I'm due my next upgrade with O2 in March and i'm looking at the X1 so will see what happens.
Have always paid my bills in full via DD and never missed a payment so should be ok.

rookwise upgrades does not require a credit check. so all will be fine.

So, the common factor in this thread seems to be Carphone Warehouse, hmmm....
Just so you know, having repeated credit checks WILL affect your credit score, so don't go around willy nilly having them done every other day, or you WILL fail more often than not. Carphone Warehouse doing 4 credit checks on 4 networks in the same day for one customer is very bad practice, and I find it suprising they get away with this.

I doubt CPW even tell people that if they are going to do another credit check it will also show on the person's credit file :S

Thanks for the info people, and good advice by Daedalus, too many refusals in a short space of time make you look desperate for credit, so no-one will lend!
