Rumours are putting the M1 Homage into production in 2013 but this is only rumour as there is no comfirmation that it will go into production from BMW.

I think BMW desperately want to put it in production but are hedging their bets because of the massive drop in spending on cars world wide. The runaway success of the Audi R8 has left BMW needing a 2 seater supercar to compete in the 911/R8/Aston Martin niche.

Spot on there, Carkitter!

The R8 is the major reason why they are actually bringing this out. You're also right about the current slowdown in the world economy. They already shelved the mighty CS, would be a shame if they would camcel this one. This could sell IMO.

I don't think they'll cancel it, just postpone it a bit. I reckon it'll sell well too, but pricing and performance figures will be crucial.

Has anyone heard about the styling exercise called GINA?

Isn't it that cloth car?
Canvas slashers will be over the mooooooooooooooon!

Anyway, you can't call the M1 a R8 competitor - the latter comes in at £80k, and if I'm not mistaken, pricing estimates for the M1 are in excess of £120k.

SURELY the only the reason any of you would want to see this made is so you can look at it? I doubt very much any of you here could afford to buy one, like most people couldn't, ESPECIALLY in the current financial climate. The sheer cost of development, building and researching a car like that would leave a huge dent in BMW's bank balance, meaning their more 'affordable' cars (I use the term loosely...) would also take a hit.
