you get free internet and wifi with the £35 a month contract anyway get them to lower it, they and will easily, if not move to another network and use an unlocking sim for an iphone

I was in position that my contract has ended and I'm just waiting for a nice phone to take over my C905.
o2 Put me on the Online simplicity 20 plan with 600 free minutes and 600 texts with unlimited data on a 1 month contract. Meaning I can upgrade at anytime with a good deal. Wait until next week to see what Apple annouce.

I'm in a similar situation. I had my upgrade due since the 17th of last month but I'm holding on till the new iPhone is released, if apple doesn't release a new iphone then I guess Im gonna have to go with n97 or omnia HD.. Coz I already an iphone 2g, which is not that far away from iphone 3g in terms of features except gps.

just spoke to O2 (persistant little buggers!), they say they havent heard anything with regards to a new iphone, they advised me to wait by all means, but do not expect a new iphone this year.
