I took a swim with my T68i in may last year. My oldest son fell in the pool, I had no thoughts of what was in my pockets when I jumped after him, but amongst fags, wallet and keys was my T68i. Both my son and my phone was left to dry for a coupple of houres in the sun, and both of them survived.

Unlikely to work - the service centre will know that it has been water damaged. It's such a big problem with mobile phones i.e. using it the rain that they won't repair it.

just to second what mscarrot said, this goes for any gadget- remove the power source and let it dry out thoroughly (in the airing cupboard for days) before you attempt to use it again. a lot of times it'll be good as new, but if you get impatient you can cause some serious damage.

you should also consider getting a case/condom case for your phone. They dont protect against every kind of water damadge but they do help! Especially in rain
