video capture on the P800, nice to have, but necessary to me... a 15 sec, no/poor audio, 192x160 vid clip doesn't really appeal to me... i don't even like mpeg clips shot from DSC's, i prefer to shoot video with DVC's... this my opinion on the subject...

the issue i'm more concerned here is SE's lame excuse on not releasing the cam API's to developers... i believe the P800 platform should be open, this would definitely benefit all (SE, consumers, 3rd party developers, etc... )

if a vid capture app for P800 does materialize, i'm going get one (as long as it's free)... it is 'NICE' to have one

Hey Why the hell do you want crapy still camera in your mobile then?
Answer: because it is practical as you have it always with you and that rising score lowered by its poor quality ! p800 is about a mini pc with lots of things build in ONE which is mobile build in 1 package.
Same is with possible video recorder in p800. P800 is about extendibility by software & hardware (BT devices).

If SE will be against application with direct access to camera controls it will go against IDEA behind P800.

Regarding ppl who say that they dont need such apps.. let me remind you that videorecorder is not only 1 possible application. I saw ibm prototype for translator of signs .. take abroad picture of sign and get it translated... application which will measure speed automatically based on input from camera ... webcamera anywhere.. that i wanted to make based on my already available flash video pushing server... lets check whats up with your chiled at home from anywhere no problem and dont argue with possible security threads... like that dev. guy from SE . His fortune was that underneath his post regarding p800's camera api unavailability he stated that this is not official statement of SE.

So PPL ask for all features you can get! You bought mini PC so dont BOX UP your minds!

A VERY short video sequence with CRAPPY quality (10 secs, 10fps) takes 1MB and is pretty useless, in every respect. Sending 1 Mb with GPRS are NOT very cheap. (we're talking several $).Everyone used the 'video' feature on a digital still cam know what i'm talking about.
The P800 can take a decent still, record a sound message and send it all as MMS. That's just fine!

1MB 10 sec? NOT true....
btw you can get smooth video even with 3 fps... if you will deploy overlaying (same system works on your tv which is done with interlaced images.. if you will not get it you will get very flicking movies)

Tryu imagine .. plane is crashing you can capture PRICELESS video
with your p800 and .. Oppss u cant as SE wasnt supportive;)

I think it was some 25kb/sec on 7650, and it was very good quality.

the only ppl who complain about the P800 r ppl who dont own one..
the reason we dont care about a videocam option is cuz there is so much more stuff to do..
u want a videocam/camera buy a DSC or something
or a camcorder for that matter..
u guys r all missing the point of what the communicam is there for.. it's there to take pictures of ppl on ur contacts and shove em in ur contacts list
it's not meant to take a photo album of ur vacation.. trust me.. I know.. I tried it, and I came back with crappy pictures.. then I bought the DSC-P71 (is that a good one btw? it's the first cam I ever bought) and the pictures came out great..

ur all forgetting that we r still talkin about a phone here..
it wont be doing the dishes n e time soon so dont ask for an app for it..

it'd be cool to hv the app, I know I'd install it.. but I am not gonna go around pissing the programming world off for a dumbass app that I will use once a month or to impress friends.. if they rent impressed by the P800 itself, than they wankers...

Well said!!! but its totally true. It comes down to one thing, when you bought the p800 like i did you were never told that it records video!!! so why bitch about it? if you want to record video buy a nice video camera, lord only knows that the quality from an inbuilt camera is gonna be horendous anyway for video use...
