It's released in the Philippines, I think but I barely see N900 dummies at stores.

the article is incorrect.

Engadget had the same, 5 months. But i think Nokia contacted them... it was within the first 5 weeks... NOT months

Ah, well that's a different story altogether.

You're being ironic here aren't you? 100,000 in five weeks? Compare with Apple selling 8.75 million iPhones from January to March. That's around 3.3 million iPhones in five weeks...

I had an N900. It's a very nice phone hardware-wise. But the Linux-based OS brings down the overall impression. If Nokia offered Symbian as an alternative then they would sell more of this model. As it is now, Maemo just scares people away, and the announcement that MeeGo will never be officially available for the N900 doesn't exactly help.

hmmmm good point i think to be honest, i love the way symbian works, i have just had the n97 mini and whilst i was in the shop hunting for a new device to use from day to day the man behind the counter offered me the n900 also , have had a play with it but found it a bit to sloppy for what i needed it for. Plus also the n900 is massive in comparision.
Dont get me wrong i know a few people that have it and they love it .
I think its just a matter of taste.
I think what you have to rememebr here is that if nokia wanted to really committ themselfs to the hardcore symbian geeks , recently released was the satio, vivaz, vivaz pro all using the symbian os.
To many handsets on the market to compete.
Also branding has a lot to do with it i think , its like this i sell phones for a living , the iphone was way to strongly marketed for a serious competition , 99% of people i sell to know what it is or who makes it!
When you mention the n900 they just look at you and stare like a little child wanting a icecream of a fatman.
I think that nokia need to pull there socks up and market phones like this much more strongly.
Anyways thats my point of view.

for one..the N900 is not mainstream mobile phone. second, it is a brick. third, it is heavy.

its because it wasnt picked up by many networks around the world... couple of the networks here are now only starting to sell it... though Nokia did state at first it wasnt going to be released here it all...

Of course the iphone is going to sell more. Was way more readily available than the n900. And, well, its an Apple product.

yeah but having said that so is the apple iphone dude.
The thing is with tesco that they having probably the biggest buying power in the uk .......... There one of the super giant companies , i even seen a tesco in tokyo lol.
Let be fair in the tesco market there can also afford to take a slight loss on some things as they make so much money on other stuff.

As for the n900 i think i am going to give it a try myself as i have been reading some reviews and it seems that its perfect for my trips to work in the morning.
I think what the main point i was reading with the n900 it was never meant to be a mainstream handset its meant to be for the more geekier types and the mainstream have latched on to it.

The N900 has done well in the market. Must every device sell in the same range as the iPhone for it to be considered a success? Each device must be judged on its own merit, and in this case, the N900 was not designed for the average mobile consumer.

By way of illustration, Ferarris don't sell as much as Toyotas, yet Ferarris are not failures.

I have an N900, and as a long-time Symbian user, I must say that this beats the daylights out of any Symbian device in the market. Before buying it, I had my reservations, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Looking for a powerful mobile computer that does lots of things exceptionally well? Give the N900 some consideration.

@alexslane your probably right there. And as of soon all networks would have taken on the iphone. And yes Tesco do have big power.
