5 years ago the n73 was not even launched lol. And symbian is not 10 years on the market...i also use symbian a long time since the 3650 was out (and thats about 7 or 8 years ago) so i also know some things ok?

thats what the help in the phone says:
Packet data connection--Select
WHEN AVAILABLE to register to the packet data network when you turn on your phone in a network that supports packet data. Select
WHEN REQUIRED to establish a packet data connection only when an application or acton requires it.

so it just register the phone to show that you have packet data... but it doesnt connect the phone. or i dont understand it right??

My figures were an estimate, why should I bother calculating real figures.

And I didn't say it connects I said it allows you to connect faster and according to your source; it registers to the packet data which does give you a faster connection.
