You can switch it off by holding down the "phone with a cross thru" button

This has got rid of the purple squares

But this doesn't tell me what they actually symbolised ???

Its similar to the profile other then normal icon

But its just two squares and there purple

The 2 purple squares indicate that a java app is currently active (Normally see this in activity screen under running apps).
Or you have an Java app set as your desktop (i.e. Bobblehead).
