Oops. Turns out my other copy of windows 7 is 32 bit too. Full reinstall for nothing.

Unless the other copy is OEM, most Windows 7 discs contain both x64 and x86 distributions.
What does it say on your licence key?

Both OEM. My daughter has a recovery disc for her laptop, and that is 64bit.
