OK goto Sony Ericsson website, click on support then click on your type of phone. Then goto bottom of the page & click on software updates. Where it says update service click on where it says DOWNLOAD HERE. This will take you to the software updater download which is only 35mb in size. Click to save or run wait for download then once downloaded start running the application then follow the instructions on how to start updating. The software updater does it all for you once you have followed the instructions. This should reflash your phone hoping it helps.

Try one of following solutions:

- Enable USB debugg mode from Settings, before connection to USB.
- Try to remove, replace or reformat the SD card.

If you want to update your SW without having to turn your phon on, try SEUS (SE update software) instead of PC Companion.

To use SEUS you dont need a memory card in the phone. This is a seperate application than the pc companion.
Its only the pc companion that requests you to have a memory card inserted as you have to put the phone into file transfer mode for the pc companion to work properly.
Another thing that could cause your problem is that the phones drivers havent loaded properly onto your computer.
There is also a reset button on the phone which is located behind the rear cover. If I remember right its the small hole/button near the bottom left section by the product sticker.

Best thing to do is completely shut down the pc companion. Download the Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS). Turn off the phone and remove your sim and memory card (not compulsary but I do it as a precaution). Run SEUS (not pc companion) and follow the instructions on the screen.
Also make sure you've made a backup onto the memory card via the backup and restore application already on the phone before doing anything.

hello

sues has now been done and phone is updated to current software update, although even though i did the back up and restore it didnt save all my contacts and also in their current state (ie some of the names were different to what was saved), does the phone store numbers on the phone and if so how do i change it to save to sim??

am i right in thinking that to update to 2.1 i need to do this via p.c companion??

thanks
