That's because the second mic on the phone (hole in the back of the handset) is facing forward getting all the head wind, whilst the main mic on the phone is at the bottom of the handset and is less affected by the wind factor.

Why do they put the mics in such odd positions?? Why not put them both on the back focusing towards where the camera is pointing??

Because the 1st mic is for capturing your voice when on the phone! and the second faces backwards as it listens to background noise and eliminates it.
that's the primary use of the second mic not stereo recording on videos
