Users don't want smaller and more fiddly SIM cards.
The excuse given by crApple that this was to make smaller phones is a red herring. As reported elsewshere, the real reason is Apple wanting to gain more power and control by preventing users from being able to move their SIM cards from phone to phone without Apple consent.
This is a proposal which should be strongly opposed.

No need for a sim card to store anything but user details as in a few years all your files, music etc will be stored in the cloud

Correctomondo! Apple as usual wanted more control.

Also, this will limit the possibility of hardware unlocking with tools such as TurboSIM and X-Sim. The chips fitted on those devices use up the unused plastic space on the MicroSIM/SIM card. Hopefully the NanoSIM doesn't get introduced until a fair unlocking policy is in place.

"But these micro cards are obviously not small enough if they want to design even smaller devices."

Yes, this is what i always wanted, make it smaller so i will loose various sim cards from different countries which i frequently use.. I think micro it self is small enough..Come to think of it, it would be difficult for the elderly to even remove or put in the nano sims, i see many people struggle with the larger ones already..

normally manufacturer's listen to user preference, but what on earth are they doing on the SIM card!?!? If you said smaller pendrive/hardisk i can understand because easy for us to carry, but we don't need small SIM card in our HUGE smartphone! I think phone technology is going to create nothing but nonsense~
