I know there is task killer but I wondering if the ICS is optimised for our 512MB RAM, so we can run more apps smoother and of course the general UI too!
There is a feature where you can disable apps and services (even those not removable), which will prevent them from loading into the memory. In this way you can optimize your own device after your liking.

How do you disable apps and services?
So far I haven't lost any amount of data or applications. Understanding our Sony phones are not very capable of handling too many apps so I would highly recommend to install only those apps which you use regularly or once in a month (even after moving apps from phone to SD, they UI becomes slow if too many apps). Don't install apps which you use very rarely. One more thing I wanted to add, brower is anyway better than before. It's responsive and the multitouch is also very fluid. It's just perfect I would say.
I wish they had given us the option to take out the game like golf 3D and other rubbish apps which we don't need.

@Indiandawg
What is your RAM sitting at the moment if you kill a lot of apps? I can normally get my Neo V on 2.3.4 Gingerbread at 170mb at a push if constantly manually kill running applications instead of task killer which doesnt kill apps properly. Does the multitask screen actually kill the app or does it just close it down but keep it running? I would be very interested if it kills the app properly.
p.s. I do like the new font, very clean!

170mb? lucky guy, I've never had that luck before lol. I prefer not to use task killer unless it's inbuilt which Android 4.0 has and I'm trying different settings to see how it works. But I'm not lagging speed. It's the same. No difference.

ICS is much more hungry than Gingerbread which sadly affects the performance of my Ray.
Now I have device which is more laggy, had couple of refreshes and regular freezes on home screen and even force closing of Home app twice for 24 hours which I never had before with 2.3.
I didn`t manage to terminate Apps from memory or cashe which I did with 2.3 it`s strange but now I have 100 - 120MB of free RAM, and before I manage to have free RAM up to 220MB. It`s not good for me.
The only thing that is worth having is the browser - it` far more fluid, much more faster (on loading and scorling) and feature proof than before. I also like full screen mode and side menus. I did`nt like the way it works with blured text and white spaces when zooming but it work faster so I have no complains after couple of hours.
The worst thing with this upgrade is battery life - it is double less than before.
I would say overall ICS is no worth upgrading for 512RAM devices just for better browser - Sony's Gingerbread is much better overall than ICS.
PS: it looks like they rushed things with ICS - some system windows and messages are stock ICS (which I kinda like) but they don`t fit at all with overall UI.

@argiriano
Go to settings/applications/all applications and disable all apps you don't need or use
You will increase the ram available and enjoy your Ray !

How many apps you have installed?

ICS is rather slow upon initial setup and startup, but once you've disabled apps you don't need and once the phone's been booted already for a bit, it's plenty fluid.
