According to the article, the year as a whole has experienced decline but the fourth quarter has increased from previous years. If they want more market share in Canada what they'll need to do is give away phones for free.. because the average Canadian is cheap when it comes to phones... they'd rather pay 19.99 for a nokia 3590 then 299 for a t68i.

I totally disagree with what you stated about phones selling more when they have just been released. When a phone has just been released in one quarter of the year, it will take at least one month (and i repeat at least) a.) before the company can ship enough volumes to all stores
b.) the networks start subsidising and making good deals for the phones on contract
c.) the general public, not the tech freaks like us, become aware of the phones release and go and buy it
when all those three happen, you will see that interest for the phone will be much higher, and the masses (they raise the marketshare, not us) will all flock to by the phone.
So my guess is that in Q1 of 2003, SE will continue to see a rise in its marketshare, especially as the highly succesful (in singapore) T100, starts releasing in europe, and the T300, T200, T600 become well established names. Finally the P800 will not contribute that much but could also play its part in the marketshare rise.
SE is on the right road...

above link have a chart saying the market share of SE excluded phone tht made by Sony or Ericsson, both brand consider as "OTHERS" so sales of T66, R600, and others in 2002 are excluded, the same to all those CDMA phone sold by sony in Japan
although they can't launch a lot of product like nokia or motorola but IF they manage to produce product tht is well accepted, they will make it.
I didn't see all Nokia, Samsung and Motorola phone become best seller. They use those strategy like using the simplest way we play "Command and conquer" -- We prepare a lot of soldiers, move them to battle field....and the best will left in the end of the war.
Of course if all those SE launched in 2003 flop, then they will be in big problem
But i don't see tht so far. There's been news that Z1010 will be consider by "3" the 3G mobile operator in some europe country. Plus you can see how fast P800 are sold at Expansys....it was 250+ yesterday but today its only 100+
