Yes, Carphone Warehouse would be able to upgrade it, but this will only be able to be done it stores like Oxford Street. Other than that, you would have send the phone away, and it would be sent to the Manufacturer, where it would then be upgraded.

BTW: I work for CPW. )

My local service centre upgrades for free as long as you tell them there's a problem (just make 1 up if you don't have one)

The legal position is (I have said this before and will continue to as I know what I am on about *grin* ) is that an authorised service centre HAS to BY LAW allow you an upgrade if the upgrade significantly enhances the function of the phones usage (you will note that this is not the case with Windows before that old argument starts).

The reason being is that the phones hardware function is (to the end user) wholly dependent on the firmware that is contained within. If SE decide that they are going to release an update and it changes the use of the phone you are allowed the update WITHOUT charge. Out of warranty though this is slightly different. You are still entitled to the update as long as the hardware has not changed significantly.

You may have a fight on your hands but as long as (in the UK at least) you do your homework and visit the public records of a library to learn about the Sale of Goods Act, you can not go wrong.

I have managed to get quite a few friends T68 upgraded that they bought way back in 2001 without receipt because I know what to say!

took my p800 to a registered service point today to get the software updated. The phone software version is STILL R1D, the Organiser version went up to R1G05 and the CDA version is still R2A04. They downloaded the software from a server in sweden oe somewhere so how are people getting an R2* phone software update? Do we need to go somewhere special? Oh yeah and the upgrade should be free as long as the phone is in warranty mine was

in the p800 white paper chapter P800 Memory Organisation / Data Storage Locations one can read

When a P800 is updated at a Sony Ericsson Service Point, or over the internet using the Sony Ericsson Update Service, all thre banks of flashmemory will b rewritten.

Anybody heard about that "Sony Ericsson Update Service"?

Like I have said before the SE UK Support Heldesk know nothing! They are a waste of time. No one in the whole place had even heard of UIQ!!! And they are meant to be support?
