current firmware version is R2F. upgrade to it at your local service centre and you shall almost never see the death triangle, not to mention that the upgrade comes with better bluetooth and some added features for the cam and full-screen viewers for pictures, video and Internet browser.

The only app I have is File Manager. Firmware is R2D.

Have been getting the hold for 10 secs error abt 2x a week.

And I get a freezing occasionally with my HCB-30 car BT handsfree kit.. I see that after some calls, the BT icon show a connection "" even though the line is hung up.. and then I can't get any new calls or SMS until I do a reset (and my battery life suddenly decreases much more rapidly)

andy sorry to hear about your situation. i went through exactly the same thing on my first two p800's.
i kicked up a stink with cpw head office and they replaced it with another.................and then another..................
anyway. im on my third now and it wont turn on because i overcharged it!!!!!!!!!!
ive only had it for 3weeks.
anyway o fogured out how to limit, not stop, the white screen of death.
it is a fault with the phone not software or applications.
what you need to do is keep as much free memory on the phone as possible. i had about 8megs before switching to my 8910i. also only turn on your bluetooth when you need it.
hope this helps. it did for me.........until my p800 died.

My phone is now at SE in MN for repair. As they are having bad weather there, their computers are down so they can't tell me anything about its status.

There are no "local service centres" in the USA : firmware upgrades cost money and can only be done in one place. SE wont do it for free, unless it is a warranty issue. I am *hoping* my issue comes under that.

i know i think its the most ridiculous thing ive ever heard of. a phone you cant charge. se said because they use polymer batteries they die or "loose a little life" with every charge. the said a six month life is expected from each battery providing you charge only when the battery is below15%.
i charged every 2-3 days and it still died. what a joke.
i was happier with a T28.
but p800 crashes werent my main concern. neither was the fact that you cant charge it.
it was the emergency calls only message on all se phones.
no matter what network sim i use i will get the message regularly. ive never seen this on anyother manufacturers phone. whatcell phone magazine UK say it is because se phone cant register on the network.
but why not?

SE said that?!? It's wrong. If it's SE's policy on batteries I'd be very surprised. Lithium batteries have internal circuitry to prevent overcharging.

It looks like you've had some bad luck - this is certainly not normal and I think you should get that battery (and phone?!) replaced under warranty - sounds knackered to me.

The "No Access" message is actually caused by other networks transmitting incorrect information resulting on SE phones trying to log on to them - however it's very unusual nowadays. In fact I've never had that message in the 4 years I've used Ericssons/SE.

sorry bossjohnc but i find it extremely hard to believe you have NEVER experienced emergency calls only. not calling you a liar. the t68 had the worst record of any phone having this problem. and to blame it on the networks is not a good enough explanation. i know hong kongs networks arent as advanced as japans but their better than the uks and i had the message when i was out there frequently. ericsson, not se, told me that my t68 was a pioneering phone which had minor faults that WILL be fixed in future software upgrades. never happened.
whatcell phone magazine uk, who know more about phones than i do, said that sony had yet to stop using poor quality parts in their review of the p800 when speaking of its inabilaty to register on the networks.
overcharging is possible but not at the rate that i experienced it. though if you do a search youll see there are quite a few people that have experienced this problem.
i was given a se promise that the white screen of death would stop in the r2d upgrade. didnt happen. now i hear they want to release a p810. which suggests 2 things-
-se support for the p800 will begin to slow down. eg software upgrades and so forth.
-the camcorder software will definately not be bought out by se. and will look less likely that anyone else will bother wasting time on it.
but im hoping im wrong.
whatever the weather well see.

I can certainly understand your frustration - and truly, I have never had this problem. Below is a quote from Jonathan Morris - freelance mobile phone journalist. I think he lurks about here somewhere and as this was posted publicly I'm sure he won't mind...

Quote:
> I don't believe the T68 No Access problem is/was on such a large scale.

It isn't. It's caused by the network end rather than the phone, although
because the Ericsson phones are seemingly the only ones affected,
naturally the users perceive it to be a handset problem.

The problem is usually very localised depending on the service in a
particular area (and the problem is usually caused by another operator
which makes it even harder to get fixed). Oh, and the user must be in a
rather marginal coverage area for the phone to even search for another
network and "start" the problem.

Also, not sure about previous firmware versions, but I have R2F on my P800, and it's my pride and joy. It acts in exactly the way I'd expect it to, and in the month or so I've had it, it's shown the 10 sec screen once - although this was before I had it flashed to R2F.

If there are satisfied customers out there, and there are many in this forum, then it must stand to reason that not everyone gets the 'no access' problem. Do a search for this problem and see how many people have it - you're certainly the first I've heard of with a P800.

To be honest, the P800 sounds totally faulty. I know it's your third, but I wouldn't take it. Send it back and either get a fourth or try a different shop.

Also just to say, I have about 3MB free on my C: and I keep bluetooth on permanently

thanks for your response.
the journalist is wrong. and why cant he explain WHY sonyericsson phones are the only ones affected?
the problem is with the cell info. sonyericsson phones have problems translating or understanding cell info. even if it is turned off. this info was given to me today by the se technician in the carphone warehouse store next to john lewis on oxford street.
got a new battery compliments of cpw. plan to sell the phone and get a z1010 as soon as poss as the p810 doesnt seem to support umts standard.
i guaruntee anyone who takes their p800 or t68 to the starbucks in selfridges london will get the emergency calls only. on my 8910i i get 3/4 bars. my p800 sat next to it would say emergency calls only, as would any of my colleagues phones that were se or sagem.
this test has never failed on me. even the t28 did here. and it hardly ever did this.
also if it really was a network problem, why are some se phones affected more than others? in fact why would it only affect se phones?
