Bookmark topic
there have been many discussions here about people updating their sw at CPW and then having problems with there phone only to be told by SE that the warranty was void as the upgrade was done at CPW which is not an officail SE servicepoint (unless that has changed)
so take the risk if you want to but i wont be

** u can get it upgraded on Orange, but not from CPW, u have to use an official SE SC, upgrading at CPW voids ur warranty anyway **
I'm afraid your are grossly incorrect, mate. I work for CPW, and I just had my own phone upgraded at..........wait for it..............CPW!
This is a falacy, and is not true at all. We have express repair centres nationwide, although not all of them can do the software upgrades at the moment. I had mine done at the Glenworth branch, and it took 4 hours. The upgrade rocks, now I just have to wait for my bigger memory stick to come!
PS: Oh, by the way, its on Orange as well, and its all good!

I would go to an authorised SE service point, mines on Orange and no problems to 3 hours in total including Quality Test!

Well after my Orange P800 died (corrupted O/S) I took it to R's Electrics in Tottenham on Sat, two hours later I got the phone back with R2D.
The software seems faster and the changes to the picture app and video are very cool. You will lose all "Orangeness" that came with the phone but personally speaking that's not a great loss. If you're desperate for the startup and shutdown mp4's there's a few sites offering them for download anyway.
With the upgrade you will lose everything on the phone (but not the MS Duo) so do a backup!!!!

Are R's still charging for the upgrade?
ie did you pay anything?
Where abouts in Tottenham are they?
Cheers,

@RMG yeah R's is still charging unless you can prove a fault with the phone...spoke to SE about that and they said not much they can do unless I send the phone in and it would take a week, so obviously i went with the latter and paid R's the £17.50 .
They located just on tottenham high road next to Domino's Pizza in the direction towards Edmonton you cant miss them they inside a store that deals with CAR SOUNDS AND ELECTRICS......

My understanding was that Orange customise their firmware to support 2 lines etc - not just adding their own logos. You can upgrade your phone with the standard SE ROMS, but then you lose the ability to access some of the more exotic Orange services that you might chose later on. This is the reason it takes ROMS for Orange phones a little longer to come out and also why they don't want you to use the standard ROM (and did forbid CPW from flashing your phone with it). You can either wait for them to pull theri finger out and get the Orange version of the ROM released, or if you're not bothered about the extra bits just find somebody prepared to flash with the standard ROM
