yeah... too complex for...."average" ....! they should've just bought nokias. P800 wasn't meant for people who got used to nokias and those "average" phones. those "freezing" and "hanging" are familiar occurences to PC or computer users. maybe they should have been more familiar with more complex gadgets, and hence be more understanding of complex gadgets, which in the first place shouldnt have been in their hands. there are many other new phones coming out soon. not that complex for the average users. they should look at those, instead of models like P800. and yes.... why are they in this forum then?

Not to create any flaming here, but I do agree that users of the P800 needs some basic understanding of technology features and how to make use of those features. Also, to utilise the full features of the P800, one also need to understand the basics of using Windows, how to install drivers, basic troubleshooting skills, etc.
Thus I can see why some people may find it 'not easy' to use and started complaining. I am working in a company's IT technical support(yes I am a proud owner of a P800, T68mi, T310, and soon T610

), and so far I've got 2 users who owns the P800. One of them is a 'gadget king' and knows about all kinds of technology, like GPRS, Bluetooth, Windows 2000, XP, etc, and thus far, he has never complained anything and in fact loved his P800 so much more than his XDA, Ipaqs, etc and seemed cant live without it. He even integrates his P800 to work flawlessly with his Thinkpad, Tablet PC, and his personal computer at home. The other, who is also a friend of mine, apart from being a user, gotta call me up every now and then, asking why this not working, how to do this, how to do that, etc. I would say its lucky that this friend of mine is working in a company where there is IT support to help out. If not, he too will definitely just drop the P800 and goes the Nokia or some other manufacturer's way.
We have to understand that SonyEricsson's phones features are always ahead of other manufacturers, like for instance, Bluetooth, whereby SE already have it since T39, which is more than 1.5 yrs back, while other manufacturer are just beginning to adopt this techology and implement it in their phones recently. I would say to fully utilise Bluetooth, you really have to pair it with your PC to appreciate this technology, but till date, how many people really knows how to properly do it?
From Freeloader's initial post here, one can understand that he does not know much about technology (sorry again, not to start a flame here), since he complains that the drivers are not digitally signed and not accepted by Windows... as anyone who technically understands at least the basics of Windows 2000 and above will never complain about this.
Btw, I do have some questions for you Freeloader:
1. U claimed that the menu of P800 is slow. Can u give some examples cos I personally feels that its extremely fast and almost instataneous whenever I wanted to open up most applications. Again, if you understand technology, u have to understand that some applications, whereby its filesize is already big, like Opera, almost 1MB, does take a little longer to load. I am definitely sure that the S55 will take at least 3x longer to load the same Opera if it is able to make use of it.
2. U calimed that the P800 has bad screen looks of colours, can you be more specific? U should take a look at NK 6xxx and 7250 series (also 4096 colours) with pictures to appreciate P800's beautiful picture quality.
Again, I am not here to offend anyone or to start a flamming war, but after so long of working in IT support, 10 yrs to be exact, these are classic examples of people not understanding techology and started blaming technology. There will always be new Technology coming out every other year or so, but still, one really have to learn and know how to use them to their full potential, and not to complain simply because he dunno how to use it at all.

Dear adnhk1,I must say that partially I agree with everything you wrote,of course I dont disagree either with you,but I was initially expressing my evaluation about my P800 based on my level of technological knowledge, which isnt as high as yours, surely. But I think that it shouldnt be so complicated to interconnect a phone with GPRS to a PC and then access the web with it,it should be a matter of minutes to set it up and less of a minute to make it work, exactly thats what I want and what I got from S55,thats all. Now concerning my ex P800 I think it was slow directly after switch on wanting to switch between basic functions,Telephone,Messages etc. and screen resolution was fine but the whole result was poor(otherwise Ericsson would not release Image Fix,which of course is no fix)compared to 7650 its a tragedy,of course other components matter here, like screen type, backlight type etc. Nevertheless,I just have switched to Siemens cause of the good connectivity it has for me right now,in the future I might return to a SE phone,I also agree that SE has a good R&D department too.Closing, once more I want to emphasize that I did not compare P800 to S55,these are otally different phones.

Freeloader,xronia polla by the way.
As far as connectivity is concerned using P800 as modem,i was ready and done automaticly with the wizard in matter of minutes with Vodafone and Telestet as well. It sounds strange that you faced all these problems!!
With my T68 i had a painfull 3 hours experience for the same job!!

@ adnhk1........May I say...... YOU DA MAN!
No, but seriously......I agree with absolutely everything you said. Its so terribly annoying when everyone else keeps calling Nokia a "superior" phone. I work for CPW, so I hear all the time. Because Nokia originally came out with an easier menu system before Sony Ericsson came along, everyone now thinks that Sony Ericsson and Ericssons still have the same, difficult menu system.
Like you said before....obviously, these people know jack s**t about technology, and how much Sony Ericsson has evolved from when it was just Ericsson.
I also second your opinion in saying that people who are'nt clued on technology, should just stick to Nokia phones, where they think they have state of the art technolgy, but instead are a long way off, eg. the screens on all the lastest Nokias (besides 7650 and 3650), these are all meant to be 4096 colours? What a crock! Theses screens are only slightly more defined than 256 colour screens like the S55 and T68i.
Anyway..........P800 RULEZ
SO NOKIA LOVERS, STAY AWAY!!!

@350z: Yes, I still do end up here coz it's a gr8 wap site. FYI, i own/owned these Ericsson phones: R380s, T68, & P800. I had then when they're barely out of the market (1rst month). I certainly loved these phones.

Guys,I dont believe this, you have turned a simple matter of connectivity disfunction(what could have occured due to several various reasons eg.hardware problems etc.)to a huge issue.Let me make it straight,I really like SE phones and I know how much they evolved from Ericsson mobiles, and I really dont like Nokia, specially all the small coloured(6610,7210,7250 etc.)seem to me like experiments to be used on buyers and they are crappy too.Thats about it,one more thing, the S55 is only a modem for me.By the way I would never buy a P800 again,I havent been disappointed from the previous one,but I wanted more and SE will provide more now with all the new phones coming soon.
