not sure if we will get the chose in the long run.
the phone companys in the uk have spent that much on buying the licenses that it has to work as a service.
so i think in years to come itmay be the only way to use a phone in the uk.
they will switch off the old network,just like they are going to do with the anologue tv signal even if people dont like it.

I suggest you look more closely at the details. The phones are currently available at those prices on the 3togo PAYG plan as well. For example the Motorola A830 can be got for only £105 at the moment with no contract from time2talk.co.uk. Ok the Motorola doesn't actually do video calls but if that isn't an issue for you (bearing in mind how many video calls you would actually be likely to make considering how many other 3 users you would know) then it is a better overall phone than the NECs anyway when you consider only the moto has GPRS for 2.5G roaming and half-decent bluetooth support.
If you do want voice calls then the e606 is under £200 on PAYG too.
And anyway - if you look at what is actually included in the kit and caboodle tariffs then you see that they are in fact ludicrously good value when you compare them with similarly priced tariffs on the other networks that include far less voice minutes (and of course no video minutes/content etc.) Obviously if you never spend that much in a month then it wouldn't be worth it. Three should be introducing some more middle of the road tariffs in the upcoming months though. In the meantime it makes sense to get the PAYG tariff now and then switch to a contract tariff later if you think it would work out better since the cost of the handsets is the same at the moment.

I will certainly buy a Z1010 - as soon as 3G providers have some services that would benefit, video calling is well and good for a laugh and for serious business but no good for day to day use IMO.

Agreed - the one thing that is *really* missing at the moment is high speed mobile internet access. That is in theory half the point of 3G and so the sooner Three get it up and running the better. I have been told that half the problem is that Three haven't worked out how to charge for it and exactly what sort of service to provide (payg/flatrate etc.)

3. the price drops per minute, becuse i expect it to be high in the begining.
3. 3G phones have better standby and talktime, 30 minutes talktime isn“t that good!
4. 3G phone that isn“t so big, everyone i have seen so far is big if you compare it with the phones that are out now!
number 1 and 2 are the main reason that i not going to buy that sort of phone in atleast one year!

I agree that normal calls are about the same but the cost of the phone and monthly costs/line rental added to the fact that video coverage is pretty poor means that it is a pretty shoddy deal.
Lets face it, a 3G phone wich isn't using its video capabilities is just a normal phone.
Try going into a Three store and ask. I just checked again yesterday - they are £199 with NO contract. The web-site is not up to date. Suggest you check you information before contradicting me ...
I also know people very high up in Three (high up enough to allow me to get a phone for £49), so I think my information is up to date.
