It is the hole for a standard earpiece, covered with a rubber flap. And the small thing on the other side is the Sony-style jog dial. (Had a non-working sample in my hand recently)

Are you completely sure? For if you look under the phone its the same "bottom-contact" as on "all" other T28, T39, T65 and T68. So why is then 2 connectors for en ear plug??

And I just saw that there is standard ear plug almost on top of the left side, an ordinary one that you uses for port. CD´s walkmans etc. So i has 2, one for HF and one for "headphones"

I been looking a bit closer to all pics I can find, and I think it might be a volume button like the ones on T28, T68 and so on, but a little bit higher on the same side, if Im not wrong, you are able to see a "wheel button" and thats the volume (It might the contrast like the ones used on Nintendo Gameboys, but i doubt it)
You can see the "volume icon" on it to.

Take a look at the 3D model on the 800 here. I'm shure it's the IR

Yepp it must be, had another look now. And the wheel button is of course the JOG used on SONYs phones, sorry for believing anything else (perhaps might it be used as volume )
Cause when I look around there is no other place the IR can be!

The upper wheel is an "action wheel". You choose by scrooling the wheel, and select by pushing it in. I´m not surprised if it doubled as a volume control while in a call.
It sounds strange to me that it should be for an ear piece. That would be connected to the uppermost hole, which is for headphones Since I can´t see an infrared port enywhere else, I´m inclined to think that´s what it is.

But are you sure they would put an IR port in the P800? I read all the specs. and i never see something about an IR port.
I would be happy if there would be one, it's easier for the sync. with the laptop.

The reason it's not in the specs is probably because it's standard on most pro phones now.....
