I don't expect any mobile phone equipt with BT class 1

When the Z1010 was first announced, it was going to have 100m range but SE then changed it to 20m after Cebit this year.
Im sure in future, when better battery technology is developed for mobile phones we definitely will see long range Bluetooth phones start to appear.
Some current phones and devices stated as 10m already exceed this value hugely. A friend of mine got his N-gage to communicate with another N-gage up to approx. 80m away !

So I dont really know how the 1Km transmission was achieved if the phone only has a range of 10m...

You may not forget the BT-range has always been kept low because of the lobbywork of the operators. The possibility of BT-connection over a serious range already existed 2 years ago. I saw a test by myself.
Mobile operators are not kind seeing the range enlarged because BT could have a negative impact on their revenues. For example: if a BT-connection between two or more phones would be authorized over a large range why should I send my text messages over the mobile operator's network and not with BT? Last case 'procedure' wouldn't cost me anything...

The 1km communication was acheived using a high gain antenna. These antennas are normally used to track aircraft from the ground, animals in the wild, TV and radio signals and other targets from extreme ranges. They can be modified to be used with a Bluetooth device, such as a PC dongle.
Normally when a phones Bluetooth signal is out of range for others to hear it, the high gain antenna still can pick up the most faint of signals from long distances. Its very possible, but not very likely to happen in the street. Also, because the antenna needs to pick up the weakest of signals, it has to be pointed directly at the other device, and possibly establish a line of sight.
