I used to have the psion 3a and 5, which ran on epoc (the grandaddy of symbian) which i think still kick any other pda os out there, which kinda made me set my hopes too high for the pda functions of the p800. I have realised it is a phone first and foremost (d'oh), the filemangment does my nonce in but the rest is great. i do use it as my pda now - tho i never type anything greater than a sms on it! The only things i wish it had are wma playback, as the files are so much smaller than mp3, chatboard support (or even t9), and that cool grey casing

Thanks to all for the replies. It looks like the old PDA is indeed doomed and all PDAs will eventually acquire phone features to survive. For example, I just read that Handspring is concentrating all their efforts now on their Treo communicators because "there is no growth in handhelds". And that's from the people who invented the original Palm.
Between the P800 and the Treo, the P800's small size wins -- though at times I wouldn't mind having a thumb keyboard like the Treo - maybe as an optional BT device someday.

Hi. IMHO, I dont think the P800 outsmarts PocketPCs especially if you compare it with the PPC Phone Edition such as the Q-Tek or O2 XDA. The only advantage of the P800 is the size and battery life (?). The PocketPC still have more features and apps than the P800.
Besides, the P800 is more of a phone, its PDA feature is only secondary. While PocketPC and Palm is moreof a powerful PDA, its phone feature is just secondary.
cheers

I wish my P800 can replace my Tungsten T so I can just carry one PDA. However, there are LOTS of medical software available for the Palm OS format ONLY so, I still have to carry both. Maybe when programs like ePocrates, Documents to Go and a patient tracking software become available for the P800, I can leave my Tungsten T behind.

T68/i with Ipaq 3870 was a far more efficient piece of equiptment but i never got used to the bulk of the ipaq & find my P800 wins by a long way because i can forget its with me untill i need it.
I have abssolutely no doubt that the P800 was the best allrounder i could have spent my money on, to me its (& allways has been ) the size VERSUS usefullness ratio thats most important.

@jigs
Agree with you as I have had psion 3a,c 5,5mx Revo+ and my expectations of PIM stuff in P800 was aimed too high.
Still not fully off my Revo & you can't beat a keyboard for data entry (just bought a new accessory for my P800 to try though, A Vaio Picturebook with Bluetooth, MS reader etc.

)
Regarding wma the problem is sorted, use the OggPlayer, you can get music as good as wma even smaller

have over 85 tracks on my 128MB DUO and OggPlayer improving all the time (don't use built in Audio player now)

I have had a Casiopeia, Psion revo, Ipaq 3850 & 3970 and lastly the Palm Tungsten and I find that the P800 is the best all rounder by far the biggest factor was the bulk in carrying my mobile and PDA at the same time but battery life and ease of use come pretty close too.

;D

Hi. I used to use an Ericsson T39 and an iPAQ. Since I got my P800, my iPAQ hasn't been removed from its craddle.
The one thing I really need though is an Office document editor. Its frustraing to be able to view them but not work with them.

I bought an Ipaq 3630 from Dixons UK for £97.00 (discontinued stock) about two months before the P800 came out. I used to use it a fair bit, but it was a little big to carry around all the time.
Now I have my P800, which has all the agenda, contacts, internet and mp3 functionality that the Ipaq had as well as being my phone and three quarters the size.
Hence, the Ipaq got sold and I now only use my P800. Long live SonyEricsson!!
