So if we're going to use this app here in Philippines using Globe Telecoms... we'll be able to send SMS via GPRS for free? considering that GPRS service is for free over wap..

Not all operators allow sending SMS over GPRS. One time someone was playing with my phone and set the GPRS option. Took me hours to figure out why SMS sending keeps failing.

The SMSSend program uses the ICQ network to send SMS. So your receiving party's operator has to be able to accept SMS sent from ICQ. It's a standard J2ME program, so will work with any phone that has Java and GPRS.

don't know about other places, but in the Uk if you send SMS via GPRS (t68i gives you the choice of GPRS or GSM) then you still get charged AFAIK.

Let me explain what this program does....it simulates a web-browser that connects to the icq network, and uses it to send sms, just like you can with internet explorer. A list of the networks that allows this can be found on ICQ's homepages I think.,..

Ok....

I found this software, and it lets you send SMS via the ICQ service.

You need to have GPRS enabled, and it uses about 1k to send a message... so works out as VERY cheap.

My mate used it, and says it works, but i have neither a p800 or 3650.... yet!

its called SMSsend but i can find no info on it on the net....

help yourself....

Hi,

has anyone actually used this successfully on a P800.

I downloaded it, joined ICQ to get a user number and password, input the settings, and tried to send a message.

If I send via http get, it says message sent but the message doesn't arrive. I f I select http post, it doesn't send and I get an error message.

I also find it odd that there is no GPRS activity on the phone and, indeed the SMS Send program doesn't ask for any GPRS details in the settings.

I am on Orange UK and have am GPRS bundle.

What am I doing wrong??

Please help cos this could be an incredible app if it works properly.

Thanks

Dave
