l had the same problem, but not anymore. l did this in the sync options l checked standard sync: ''automatically resolve conflics keep all items in phone overide items in computer'' and in the fullsync options do the same and DO NOT check the full force sync option.

If you delete something
a) on the phone - will it delete itself on the PC
b) delete something on the PC will it delete itself on the phone?!

I find it difficult because I am forever adding new diary entries on my Phone and then editing and tweaking them on my PC!
And likewise contacts.
I thus need true 2-way flow of data so I can't just let the PC always over-ride the phone... nor vice versa!
Out of desperation I have also tried deleting EVERYTHING on the phone Diary and contacts and then synchronising. Slightly mixed, inconclusive results... but either way WHAT A PAIN!
(Maybe it's the FULL synchronisation that is causing PART of the trouble... I try not to use is as I have a feeling that is may duplicate everthing in sight!)

different edits of the same contact may be the issue. if you have joe blogs mobile on the phone, and joe blogs landline and email on the pc you will get multiple entries after a sync because it see's they are not the same thing. even though to you they maybe. what you need to do is sync the phone with the pc, emalgamate your duplicat contacts so all the information is in one contact on your pc. delete ALL contacts in the phone and then sync the contacts back to the phone from the pc. if someone changes their number or whatever and you change it in the phone only , next time you sync you will have 2 entries againfor that person.

Hi locoworks
This doesnt sound right...!
If what you say is correct then it sounds like it cant do any actual synchronisation AT ALL - just glorified over writing/copying!
Two questions:
A) How is the software DESIGNED to work?
B) How does the software ACTUALLY work?
The question is how does the software identify a unique record - e.g. in the case of contact a unique "contact" - by name, by email address, or what?
And then what is it supposed to do when it meets a record from each source (i.e. one on the phone & one on the PC) that are NOT the same.
Personally I think it would be best for it to simply take the most recently modified record and use that at the base, and then take any fields that are empty in the "base" record but which have content in the other record and then just fill in what it can from the other record.
But instead of all that it LOVES saying (in effect) aha-this is a COMPLETELY new contact, I'd better add it as a separate new contact.
Now the WEIRD thing is it loves doing this to records that I DEFINITELY HAVENT CHANGED! And every time I synch it adds yet another copy of exactly the same record!!

i see what your saying, i think the overwrite bit about sums it up. you can tell the phone to overwrite pc or vice versa etc, but i think when it resolves a conflict it shows both entries. what it does not do is create one contact out of 2 with the same name with all the details of both contacts emalgamated with no duplicate info in the contact. another point is if you saved a number from a text as a contact it may save with the +44 in it. if you really are getting identical multiple contacts after syncing i would guess as stated earlier in this thread that your sync settings need looking at. you may also, if you have not added any new contacts to either device, untick the contacts sync box?

I'm afraid someone has to dig this up again, and it has to be me! Anyway, I'm not here to win a popularity contest, but I am tired of having to criticize SE for its failure to provide a robust PIM solution in its business model phones...
I'm doing everything by the book. My master copy of contacts and other data is always on the phone. Consequently, when I sync, the conflict resolution setting I use is: Keep items on phone, override the PC.
Yet: all contacts are reimported into the phone, which ends up having duplicate contacts (or triplicate/quadruplicate..., depending on when you notice)
I rule out an Outlook problem, since my Nokia 7710 synched perfectly, nary a problem. The Nokia PC Suite sync report was also extensive, showing exactly what entries were synch'ed and in what manner (add/delete/modify). The SE PC Suite software does not provide a comprehensive report. Wonder why.....
Any further developments and ideas regarding how to solve this problem?
P.S.
Could anyone tell me how to contact Sony Ericsson Tech Support directly on this issue? Personally, I feel that the situation with incorrect syncs via PC Suite is wholly unacceptable, and it's been around far too long now!
