well when i first turned it on, nothing, then on the top of the screen it said searching. Now it permanently says "no access."

while I feel sorry for CHEL buying second hand mobiles is a very dodgy game and the buyer really should give the unit a thorough checkout including inserting your own SIM and making a call to a friend and have them call you. Its the minimum I do when I buy a used phone.
As for reporting the seller to the police... has he committed an offence of any kind? I don't think so.

I think you are making an assumption that would be very hard to prove and could end up in a slander charge back at you should you be wrong.
anyway who knows. None of this help CHEL and probably this is best treated as a lesson learned.

No no, not you! The guy that sold it to you. At risk of making slanderous (maybe even libellous!) accusations, you won't be doing anything wrong unless you try to sell it on - which I wouldn't! The guy who sold it to you, however, MAY have had dubious intentions (can I say that;)) and it seems a little strange that, in his innocence, he cut off the number he gave as a contact when selling the phone, immediately it was out of his hands!

those r also the symptoms wen ur aerial is screwed up. i know it all sounds dodgy wat wiv him cuttin off that numba str8 away etc. but i still think its worth goin down to 2 service centre n c'in wat they have 2 say...at least then they will check it 4 u and ur mind will b at rest. (i hope!)

ok news!!! i attempted yet again to call out, and it did! then i tried again and it didn't. It seems to be an aereal thing! After 50 attempts to call it did eventually. But thats not the best of it. It turns out the number in which we called the seller on, is the number in this phone! so, the aereal is that bad, that while the phone was in the same distance of my boyfriends in which he was calling from, it failed to connect. This is all complicated, but basically, the phones NOT blocked, its just a VERY VERY VERY bad signal.
VERY Bad indeed. Still not working again.
