Doom II is 3D??? Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallright...

Well, if Doom is 3D, then games like Quake and Unreal, what are they? 4D? I think you are mistaken a bit guys when it comes to game engines and what I mean... I'm talking about REAL 3D environments. Doom II, although is looks '3D', it's still nothing more than 2D...

Actually, the only 3D thing in that game, is just the levels (The floor and the walls.) And even those aren't fully 3D, because you can't look up, down, etc. (That's today's point of 3D gaming). Everything else in that game is 2D bitmaps: The enemies, the objects, the background landscape, the effects (flames, projectiles, etc.) On the contrary, in Quake for instance, most stuff mentioned above is in 3D. And the more the 3D game engines advance, the more 3D the games become!

So, next time you write back, think about what the other person writes and means, and don't rush yourself into an answer just for the purpose of dissing or being a smart ass!

Right back at you!!

Mophun 3d is not some lame ass raycasting engine like doom/wolfenstein, but true polygon graphics.

Once again: Check out the rally game on their website! It really cool, and then you will see for yourself!

Dont be so hard on Doom,DoomII and Castle of wolfenstein either for that matter
All those games are 3d in that aspect that the surrounding Environment is in 3 dimensions, however in doom there was no real Z dimension (Height). And i think i know why you call doom "not a real 3d game" The entities (monsters) where not 3d models but only a plain surface with a 2d picture on it (animated of course).
With Quake there was real 3d-monsters to aim @.
So wether it is a "3d" screen or not, the computer does draw a 3d environment and makes the computation for it.
When it comes to what U SEE, there is a difference, still presented on a plain surface lit by pixels yes. But there has been nothing or very little on the "virtuality" RD side what i have seen.
But maybe there will be a breakthrough when the new small screens are cheaper and better?

Cheers.

@magwe
oh common man! you can do better than that! you're already satisfied with a product without even seing it in action?!?!? I'm sure you know better than that! A picture can always be looking impressive... let yourself see those shit moving and then judge it!

@Charly
common Charly boy! You had to go through writing all this? You know that at the end, we more or less said the same thing! As for the mobile phone gaming, as I said earlier, I believe that it's gonna be some really good stuff 1-2 years ahead. Judging by the rate of progression, and the various software conflicts among the mobile makers uptil now, there are still some imortant issues to be taken care of. Besides, up til now, there hasn't been any mobiles that people have gone crazy over, just becasue of their gaming capabilities and therefore bought it for that particular reason. When THAT time comes, then we will talk about a REAL breakthrough...

ratGT, I'm going to spell this out one last time... THERE IS A PLAYABLE DEMO ON THE MOPHUN PAGE! I'm not making any jugement from screenshots or anything like that. You can play "Synergenix Rally 3D" for yourself. (I recommend it..) It uses billboarding to draw trees, but that is to be expected since trees are very complex and even some PC games still do this today. The rest is pure polygon graphics...

How is the "rest" of Synergenix Rally true 3D? The cars have like five possible angles so they're just bitmaps. The race track is just plotted on the screen and you don't have the freedom to drive anywhere on the track.

FRiC: You must have played the old "Synergenix Rally", not "Synergenix Rally 3D".

From the main page click the mophun 3D add, then click the picture or the link that sais "Play the Demo!"

@magwe: You're right, I didn't notice there's a playable 3D version. The car is indeed true polygonal 3D. The racetrack itself doens't seem to be a true 3D object though.

If this can do full screen 3D it will be very cool.

Of course, all this will lead nowhere unless they get rid of the stupid certification process.

@magwe
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! DAMN IT! YOU SEEM TO GET PAST INTO YOUR BRAIN ONLY WHAT YOU WANT!!! I said, IT HAS SOME 3D, but it's NOT a proper/ full 3D game!!! DO YO UNDERSTAND THIS NOW THAT I'VE PLACED THIS IN SIMPLE WORDS?!?!?! The reason why I mentioned this right from the beginning, is that these kind of '3D games' (my ass) where actual and 'cool' many, MANY years ago. AND I'M JUST SAYING that they will be PROPER 3D games (Proper progress) when they'll get past this type of 3D engine, and advance it into A FULLY 3D ENGINE!!!
