The 7 day period only applies to items bought mail order or by telephone - it gives you time to examine the goods to make sure you're happy with them. This period does NOT apply to in-store upgrades as it's your responsibility to test the phone before buying it.
The 14 day period applies only to signing NEW contracts, ie. not extending contract as with an upgrade.
These are your statuatory rights in the United Kingdom. These are Law.

@Jonny05 - not sure what your source is, but it's wrong. If you intend to return anything to a shop that you bought it from over the counter there has to be a reason, even within 7 days and even if it's in original condition. With mail order items you have 7 days.

In most cases 6 years is a little out of the question, but in cases where the goods should last longer than they have, usually because of failure due to an original fault I imagine.
It's what the law says, which isn't good if you're a reseller as it's fairly vague.
