I'd just like to stick up for O2. Granted, the first people in Cust Serv you speak to are often a little lacking, but as soon as you get through to the right team, like Tech or MIST, you always find out what you need to know. As for coverage, they are spot on for me - remember, most people only post when they have a problem, and this often gives the impression that a network is plagued with problems, when in fact most people are doing just fine and so don't go looking for help in forums!
O2 are also by far the cheapest network.
But I really wish they'd get a move on with new phones - if I wasn't so darn loyal I'd have switched by now!
@jalu - I spent loads of money on my account last yearin one month when i was abroad, like 350 quid, could this help me get a discounted handset?

Yeah your right ther're cheap and good. £350 in a month, i think they will role the red carpet out for you! I wish all the networks would give release dates for new phones, not may/june, but like 21st may or something. They know when they ordered them, so they know when they get them.

I want to back up what the other guys have said. I've been on 02 for about 6 years now and found Customer Service to be excellent. When I've had a problem (Few and far between) they've sorted it and offered compensation.
They are most definitely best value for money out of all the big networks and the best thing is they DON'T brand the phone and they DON'T lock it down. It's your phone as YOU'VE paid for it. Can't say that for Vodamoan, T-pot or "Oranga tan".

I too use o2 (online). I think the online arm of o2 has far worse CS than the normal part of o2, but I have only ever had to get in touch once and they did sort my problem sharpish.
Since being on their Online 500 tarriff I have never had a bill over £20. I was on vodafone for about 2 years and my bills were always £40+. I use the phone as much as I used to but my free text and talk time allowances cover nearly everything. Coverage is better in my region (Norfolk) too.

Yep 02 are def cheaper. the online tariffs are excellent, the reason why there are cheaper is stuff like customer service is not as good, but who cares if you only have to ring them one or twice in a year. Yep bonus that phones are unbranded and unlocked. I was nearly tempted getting the t610 on vodaphone, but the branding on the phone is awful and the tariffs are pretty awful.

I doubt that, as phones on O2's newly announced 'O2 Active' service, which the T610 will obviously be a part of, have to have an 'O2 button' to jump straight into the service, like V'Live!/t-zones.

@peter..You think you have to wait for things.HAHA.I live in the States.No sign of the T616 being released anytime soon.I asked ATT and the guy had no idea what I was talking about.Then I asked about the 7250.He said it should be here within the next 6 months.Im just going to keep my Nokia 6200 and maybe go for the T616 when it comes out.

02 Active?? I haven't heard of that? Well even if they do add a button, i bet you it will be good looking, 02 make very sexy ads;-). Still going to wait for it, the tariff is just so much cheaper than a comparable voda/orange/t-mobile one

Having been a customer of all parts of o2 and seen it from the inside it is true that the Online arm has the most trouble with Customer Care. They have, however, recently put a truckload of work into clearing their email backlog which was really high, I hear. Their phone staff are the same as ours except you're phoning a premium rate number so bad experiences that could happen everywhere else seem worse because you're paying more.
The flipside is the tariffs, you really can't beat the Online ones for texts.
Their coverage is supposed to be pretty good, we have a tool at work to check coverage and whenever I use it, there usually seems to be good coverage. We cover, apparently, 99.9% of the UK population.
Note thats population, not landmass.
@Jaydee: I've recently moved from PAYG to Contract and I've found that contract are a lot less flexible wrt upgrades. If you're out to change your phone and get good discounts, go on PAYG.
The current PAYG upgrade scheme involves o2 calculating how much you have spent over the last year (subject to minimum 9 month connection to PAYG) and giving you £5 credit for each £50 you have topped up if you upgrade. So, theoretically, you can have £50 worth of credit.
You also get fantastic (up to £100 often) discounts on handsets, although it is true they come out on PAYG later than contract.
As for speeding up new phones - well, it'd be nice but the accreditation process (authorisation/acceptance onto the network) seems to take a while. At least it reduces later problems.
O2 Active appears to be, like previously mentioned, similar to Vodafone Live. I don't know all that much about it yet, suggesting it might not be out for a bit. I hope O2 don't brand the phones with it though, I really resent Orange for sticking their mark on the phones and like the way o2 don't.
Plus at least new phones will all display O2-UK now, we have two in the family that still say BTCellnet, which is a bummer.
O2 adverts? Well, they were a bit rubbishy at first, but I must admit I like the new ones. They do have a favouritism for odd backing music though - the first one was "Release The Pressure" by Leftfield and the second is "Blood On The Motorway" by DJ Shadow.
If you can, try downloading them. They are very odd indeed.

@ Jalu - Lol at the adverts. I think they're pretty cool, how teh bubbles look so realistic. And they are "in there" again with the sponsoring of BB, so I'm sure that will do them a lot of good. It's just funny in one of the BB ads when the guy gets out his Nokia 3650 and it's ****in HUGE.
I've realised taht I spent taht huge amount of money with vodafone and not O2, so I might give them a ring. What's the cuurent deal with the software and branding - what conclusion did we reach? COuld the software be changed, can the phone be unblocked when bough on Vodamoan Pie?
