Interesting point? Do you have to pay to receive MMS’s?

you pay only for the GPRS data received...for a 30k MMS i pay 0.06 $.
That`s cheaper than SMS.

I dont think you get charged for incoming MMS's. Could be wrong, i've received a few but dont think I've been charged. Its politically wrong, where the both sender and recipient have to pay for the same information. You dont requests MMSs - you just get them.

This hasnt stopped companies (like BT) charging for services (like bt answerphone), where the caller has to pay for the answerphone service , which is labelled free to the recipient.

I used to recieve many junk sms's, but I can see MMS will be worse. Can you imagine similar spam as hotmail going to your mobile?

In Australia and Austria you do get charged when you get an MMS! I am sure it is for all other providers!

Check on it!

With my UK Vodafone GPRS tarrif I only get charged 0.23pence per Kb of data transfered (send / received), that's point 23 of a penny, not 23pence per Kb.
There is no charge for actually receiving the message other than the amount of data GPRS received.
When I read the small print at nowmms.com I understood that their "free" service was funded by sponsors / advertisers who will occasionally send me as a user promotional content which I have no problem with, unless it runs to more that 1 or 2 per day, depending on the amount I use their service.
In the P800 control panel / connections / MMS setting there is an option to exclude Advertisements, Information & Anonymous senders and to restrict the size of the incoming MMS, so this may be usefull in stopping / limiting what adverts are actually received. I will look at this option when I finally get an advert MMS sent to me.
The web site also said that you can stop the adverts from being received by cancelling / stop, using the service.
I have yet to see a fault with it, but I'm always willing to admit if I've made a mistake. I shall wait and see.

Just delete the spam mms messages before downloading them. And YES you will be charged per kb when downloading the messages. Why would your service provider discriminate between normal downloads and the the mms downloads you get from nowmms?

On the p800 atleast you can set a maximum size of the message to be downloaded automatically.. Just set this really low and you can simply delete the messages before they get downloaded.

Ive been using nowmms for about a month, and its pretty nice having a free service. Ive not yet recieved a single advertisment either! It needs a lot of improvement though, for example i find that frequently the server will be down for like 2 or 3 days, unannounced and for an unspecified reason. I also find that if my p8 is switched off and an email is sent to my nowmms account, i wont recieve it when i switch on again. Plus, i cant recieve messages bigger than 30k.
But griping aside, its brilliant for basic picture messaging and emails, but just be aware not to rely on it too much!
