Exactly - the higher the res the longer it will take to store, but I suspect movies are going to be low res anyway. I cannot see it recording at even 320x240. Therefore with the compression taken care of by the fast CPU I see no reason why it cannot write the relatively small amounts of data to the memory stick (or internal memory)

Let's hope it's worth to wait for.. Personally I'd appreciate more a video player that supported several formats like .avi and regular .mpg which most non mobile devices use.
I wonder whether there is one?

It's very possible to create an app like this, just as one already exists on the 7650, and 3750 (whatever the hell it is, the bug ugly freak nokia).

Here's the way i see it my first smartphone was 7650 then 3650 then in the last few days i got the p800, i see no reason that the p800 could not do video just as well as the two nokia's and all these phones have something that the other does'nt no matter how small etc but they are all capeable of a lot more than we are seeing at the moment and believe me the next few months will be awesome
The way i look at having been sending small video msg's from my phones for some months there is no reason the p800 cant do this task and do it sufficiently, lets face it were not talking hollywood movies here, were talking short clips of relatively ok quality to send to our friends etc.. for the people that keep putting it down saying it'll never happen...come on 2 years ago we were still stuck to txt msg's and they said that'll never take off!! when i started doing video on my nokia people said thats as good as it'll get for these phones, then video with audio came, then the 10sec video capture length was broken and now if i want i can record on my phone for anything up to and beyond 10mins...
Keep the faith ye early adopters....

I had a 3650 for about 2 months before I got the P800,and the video part of the phone was crap. If you weren't on top of your subject, it was hard to make out who it was, after you took the shot (10-15 secs max), the phone hung for anywhere between 2 to 4 minutes.
Not the best experience.

The phone didnt hang that was the phone encoding the video.. and in the right lighting conditions the video was perfectly fine for sending to other phones or email,been doing for some time with no complaints, the other video app hipcam that recorded longer didnt have as good video if you notice after you record with this app it does'nt take time to encode the video, hence worse quality..
anyway back to the p800 video... matter of time and patience!!

I'm inclined to say it's certainly possible, and the writing to solid-state internal/external RAM of the video shouldn't be an issue - this would be done after the video had been taken, surely? I believe you'll find that there is an unknown section of very quick read/write RAM built into the phone for buffering etc (or possiblya section of the 12MB internal is used, but i doubt it - see below) - thus this would simply have the video temorarily written to it, and then once capture is over it would be transferred to the Duo or to internal memory, depending upon where you told it to go.
Let me put it like this - this is digital equipment, so EVERY image you see when using the camera viewfinder, etc, every micrometer you move the phone requires another 'photo' to be taken, stored to memory, and then processed and displayed.
You aren't simply looking through a piece of glass or plastic at the real image on the other side here. Swing the phone around wildly, you know it'll blur, but you can get a decent continual image with slower movements. It doesn't matter whether or not you've pressed the 'capture' button - every frame has been recorded to some memory on the phone for a certain period, and then read right back in nanoseconds, and i know it's certainly not the Duo, and unlikely to be the 'usable' 12MB built in, either. The pause after taking photos is the phone taking it's time transferring from the 'buffer' memory to a storage location, which is evidently far slower. Obviously the 'buffer' is told to clear out reasonably quickly, but i'm pretty sure theres more than enough space for a 100KB+ video on there - it's probably a MB or two (but this is just me musing....)

Unless of corse, the SE intended this functionality from the start, but then where's the application?
Did they not have time to make it but enough time to make the games? With the right knowledge it would take a few days as opposed to making a game like MIB2.. I just don't get why they would exclude such a sales point if it was possible..
Some sort of video recording will come one day, i'm sure.. but i'm not convinced that it will be of any use, even for mms. I hope that some developer will prove me wrong though

The reason I said what I said was, was because a video recording app for the P800 seems to be the Holy Grail at the moment, but having experienced it on a phone (and being quite excited about the idea) I found it wasn't the experience I was hoping for.
