Wow, what brought this thread back?

To be honest, development has stalled right now. I haven't heard much since the company has changed hands. The driver was never included with the keyboard. I also haven't really used mine much at the moment.

As for the idea of a mouse, that would be quite nice, but of course not feasible

Anyway, I expect the company to release a very good product for our phones. From what I saw, they were trying. I'm amazed that since I started this thread, there have been no other companies that released a keyboard.

Oh, and it's IR.

@DiGNAN17

Pocketop told me, yesterday by email, that the beta driver for the P800 will be released next week. I may buy the keyboard and ask if I can test the beta - will need to look at where I can get this keyboard for a reasonable price in the UK.

if the keyboard is IRDA, isnt it going to be fairly difficult to use due to the P800 position of the IRDA port on the left hand side?

would a mirror work?

@thundercat

For some of the PDAs supported by the Pocketop drivers, an additional piece of s/w is provided that allows te display to be adjusted to landscape mode. I'm not saying this will be the case for the P800 - but such an option would allow one to rest the P800 horizontally and allow the IR to reflect off the verticall positioned mirror on the Pocketop PDA stand (ths mirror re-directs the IR beam to a transceiver on the keyboard).

it would be better if the keyboard was bluetooth but that would make it expensive

To answer everyone's question, including the one about the IR receiver, I will refer to my post on the MySymbian forums, which was later than this one (I thought I also posted it here, but this was the thread that was dragged up), and has much more info:

As for the driver they are releasing, they mentioned to me, when the company was changing hands, that they would be releasing a driver in the fall, but I doubt you would be able to get one right now.

Guys & Gals, Targus are also working on developing drivers for their IR keyboard

Have a look here and have a look at the PDF compatibility chart; it says they are working on a P800 version

The pocketop driver (beta) is already available. It was announced in www.my-symbian.com. I believe you can download it there. I don't have the hardware so I can't test it.
