get a terminator dongle and DIV software. the DIV is free and terminator dongle is about $25 shipped now. with that, you can flash and unlock as many t610's/z600'z/t630's as you want.

except for one tiny detail: the site where everybody gets their software appears to be shut down

No it is not. Unlocking is done through a CABLE connected to a dongle (NOT a bluetooth dongle) connected to the computer.
Mind you, the boluetooth connection to the phone is
operated by the phones software.
For unlocking the phone, the phones software needs to be accessed from the outside to make some alterations in the 'boot directory' so to speak. To do this... the phones software obviously must be switched off! The whole unlocking process is initiated and directed from OUTSIDE the phone. Not inside. Hope this makes sense.

Even if you unlock you phone, you won't be able to use it with T-mobile ... T-moble uses T610 and you are using T616..... the frequencies are different.
This is not entirely true. In many areas they both use the 1900mHz band. You will just have to check your area carefully. I don't know where I found coverage maps that show which band each provider used. I used my T616 all over Europe even though it doesn't have the 900mHz band.

one of my mates told me that it might be some sort of flag on a flash memory device, which states that the phone is locked to so and so network.
the dongle or the code from orange would delete/reset the flag and would enable mne to use the phone on any network.
