This is exactly the problem I encountered using my T68i configuration with my T39m:

GOT THE ANSWER!!!

Apparently, on Vodafone, GPRS IP access is only available to tariffs of Vodafone 200 or greater!!

My T68i is on Voda200, the T39 is on Voda20, hence one working, the other resulting in 'GPRS parameters not supported'!

I shall sleep easier at night now with this problem resolved!!!!

Sorry don't think thats quite the full answer...

Before getting my T610, I had a jornada 928 on vodaphone, I was on their anytime 30 mins plan (£15.00 a month) and gprs5 and it all worked fine with no problems.

I am now on the same tariff but dropped down to GPRS1, which I am beginning to think might be the problem.

Ex Vodafone Tech Support here (made redundant, glad to see my ex-colleagues are missing me, assholes!) You are correct, to access POP3 or IMAP e-mail you need to use the 'internet' APN. You also need to make sure Vodafone have enabled your account to access the internet APN, some accounts may be enabled for the WAP APN only. This is why you are getting the GPRS parameters unsupported message, get Vodafone to check your account is enabled for the internet APN, then you can create a new data account on the phone with the internet APN settings and edit your email account settings to use that data account. You can leave the WAP accounts as they are so you can still use WAP if you want, if you edit the WAP account settings for the internet APN then you will have problems using WAP on some sites. Don't forget to use smtp.vizzavi.co.uk as the outgoing mail server, otherwise you may not be able to send mail.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Mo.

Whoever told you that pop3 wont work on t610 is talking rubbish. I have mine set up for yahoo and vodafone email accounts and it works fine. I work for vodafone, and am not surprised by the technical departments lack of knowledge - i have to deal with those idiots every day! This message was posted from a T610

Wow Mo... and they sacked you? The one bloke that knows what he is talking about!

Mo is absolutely right.

Its nothing to do with what tariff you are on
Its nothing to do with your phone settings
Its nothing to do with which flavour of GPRS you have set up.

All you need to do is TELL Vodafone to turn on your Internet APN. This is an account setting that appears to be off by default on some of thier tariffs. Connect is then done via Vodafones default data account
Vodafone GPRS (even though all the setting in this refer to WAP - this is how it should be)

I had to be quite forceful with them, like I said initially I was told it was a fault with the handset and I should change it to another manufacturer. Then the first time I tried to get them to turn on the Internet APN they sent me all sorts of settings and got my to take my sim card out and jump through various hoops still no good. So I called back and in the end got a woman that looked at my account and said "You just need the Internet APN access setting up on you account - I'll do it now" She told me to wait 2 hrs then try again - I waited 1hr and it all worked great.

thanks again for all the help. I looked all over the web an couldn't find any before this.

You say it has nothing to do with the phone settings so I ask you to go back to your original wap settings and try to send mail. You will find that yes, you had to activate GPRS but also you must have the correct settings for internet access rather than wap access, i.e. APN = internet.

Still... glad to hear its all working now!

My settings are now back to that which came on the phone

APN:wap.vodafone.co.uk
username:wap
password:wap

Previous I had gprs services set up on the phone but it wasn't enough, there was also a setting on the account they needed to turn on too.

Glad to hear you got it working netsmithuk. Masseur is right though, you need to connect through a data account set up to connect to the internet APN for it to work. If you try to connect to the mail servers through the WAP APN it will fail. Check that you haven't edited your WAP data account to connect to the internet APN instead. If you have, set it back to connect to the WAP APN, 'wap.vodafone.co.uk', user name 'user@vodafone.net', password 'user', and then create a new data account to connect to the internet APN, 'internet', user name 'web', password 'web'. Then edit your email account and set it to use the new data account when it needs to connect. If you don't use WAP then you don't need to worry about making these changes.

Again, hope this helps,

Cheers,

Mo.

P.S. I wasn't sacked made redundant, I worked in a regional office and they could no longer afford me! Gotta pay for Chris Gent's multi million pound golden handshake somehow!

@netsmithuk,

Tried PM'ing you - system flopped; so here's my two-penneth!

Prior to this thread, I've seen it posted a dozen times or more that wap GPRS needs a wap APN - on Voda, that being wap.vodfone.co.uk/wap/wap.

Likewise that POP/IMAP email needs a data APN - on Voda, that being internet/web/web.

My Vodafone200 package through Carphone Warehouse is the lowest tariff that CPW will do on Vodafone with the 'internet'/IP APN activated: hence my Voda200 T68i works, and the Voda20 T39 doesn't - if I could be ars*d, I'd swap SIM cards around to confirm, but I'm happy with this explanation.

I also read in a GoogleGroup regarding an Ericsson phone/GPRS/PDA configuration that the PDA can use the GPRS of the phone connection to access the POP/IMAP data with a 'wap' APN - in this instance the PDA is 'doing the work', not the phone's email client. Or something like that...

The CPW Voda-support guy said that they wouldn't activate the 'IP' unless I upped my tariff...
