The settings through configurator are fine, *PROVIDED* the service provider has enabled the necessary network attributes, i.e. wap AND data APNs.

Vodafone problems sorted...
After the usual months on the helpline to people who know less than I (impressive trick in itself), hours in the oxford street data store, emails to the helpline etc etc etc finally sorted.
Apparently there has been some problem/change of parameters for Pay as You Go customers re apn data access (it is now web/web).
The (half-) amusing thing is the on the day I got one email from one part of vodafone help system explaining this, I got another form a different area suggesting that I lived in an area of poor reception!
It beggars belief that they cannot even inform their own people of probs/change of params - let alone the poor use. I put it down to the culture being one of a telephone company but the product being increasingly a computer one.
As for these configurators I tried the lot (they all give different answers). GPRS on pay as you go seems to be far more problematic than on monthly contract (and they seem to care a darn sight less about it).
Anyway I did see somewhere else here a poster who had had the same prob - it worked for a while and then it didn't - hopefully they are now sorted (if not try pp/vodafone.co.uk;web;web rather than ditto;wap;wap).
Tx for the suggestions guys.
